So sorry for your loss. Hate it when this stuff happens.

About three months ago, one of my son’s best friends and his passenger died when he rolled his Jeep four wheeling. He rolled it and was not wearing a seat belt. :thumbdown What is so cool about not wearing your seat belt if your dead? Anyway, our friend had been in trouble with law, drugs, etc, but was coming around. Basically, he was a pretty good kid, I liked him, but, he was almost, too good at times. Hey, I was young too and played the game too. Anyway, I just think he was frustrated when his parents split, and for some reason, he never really lined out, and it cost him. :thumbdown

It really suk’d, cause he had come by the house about a month prior, when his grandma was dying, asking how my son was doing. Hit my boy hard, ‘cause they had first met out on our lake, snowmobiling, (well racing, , my boy won!) and had been best buddies since, and I used to be the resident mechanic that kept them going. I don’t like where my boy is, but all I could think of when I heard the news was “thank gawd my son is alive”. You sit and ask why shit happens? You never know why, and I thought, you know, maybe my boy could have been with him?

One thing that is always in the back of my mind that I always consider is when ever I may be “challenged” by someone, especially if they from the less than 20 side of life. I will let them win; keep up, etc. vs. pushing him/her into a mistake. It is just not worth the risk, cause when you’re young, you think you know it all, that is what is so great about being young, but so dangerous too!! Don’t take that the wrong way, no disrespect intended!!

I saw the new report last night, and it was hard to watch, knowing how young the kid was. Im very sorry for the loss of his family and friends, and hope that people will learn from this.


Nikki, oh yes i know exactly who you speak of, and just about everytime on the road hes warned, he cant controll every little thing (animals, other cars, holes in the road) stuff like that. I just hope he slows down soon.

Man that really sucks, sorry to hear it. Hope you son is doing well.....

Nikki, the scene was pretty bad, i just went by there and i got out, parked and walked about a 1/5 mile of the road to put myself in Erics head to see if i could figure out what happened. Well i did and when i put it all together and ended up in front of the tree i just yelled "god damn it Eric" I can't beleive he would try a move like that. I mean seriously, i have been racing for 7 years, all kinds of racing, i have gone through 3 different racing classes and i would never have pulled a move like that. His car being FWD hit understeer while he was trying to pass and thats what sent him into the tree.

My brother and his friends still havent had the strength to go see the spot and in all honesty it brought a tear to my eye to know that eric saw it coming. Seeing his football jersey and the pictures, flowers, crosses, candles and cards that were left for him just makes you see how loved he really was.

Folks please be careful out there. Life can be taken from us so fast its scary. I mean is it really worth it to take a few turns fast? Talk to your friends and do what you can to insure that you do all you can to prevent such a thing.

Like i said above i was looking for a 1g to buy for my younger bro but now i know what im gonna do..... I can tell you that no matter what we get him it will have a roll cage and plenty of safety equipment.

If you really want him to gain love for the 1g DSMs. I urge you to get him an N/T. And the saftey equipment is a very good idea.

Ya my best friend died this past summer in a car crash no seat belts hit a tree head on going about 70mph...took out another kid with him as well...trust me you don't want to go to someone's funeral especially a kid that's that young...

yeah it was all over the news and all over www.dragva.com one of my friends in my class at NOVA said he knew the other guy.. the one that survived.. apparently it was a Mustang or Camaro v8 vs a mazda protege (eric).. . a protege??? ... but yeah that sucks he died.. but they were racing on a 2 lane road (one lane went one direction, the other lane went the other direction) which is pretty dumb. curvy roads + 2 way traffic = not safe. but ehhh everyone does it.. sucks htough. sucks that he had to die.

i just had a friend monday night named glenn miller who hung himself at 21 years old. he was a good friend of mine all through highschool and was a funny and great kid.

i can totally understand where he is coming from.

Agreed. I had a 1G NT (first car) for a while before getting the GSX, and there's a good chance I wouldn't be here now if I had had the turbo car to begin with. We need to make mistakes in order to learn from them, but in some cases it's necessary to pull in the reigns on someone if you're able to, so that they don't make too serious a mistake and get themselves killed.

thanks victor. the next two days will be hard, the Viewing is today and i know my brother and his friends are really nervous about it. Tomorrow is the funueral and having gone through this type of thing all too many times myself i know that the viewing and funeral is where it hits the hardest.

I just came from the viewing for Eric and spoke to his monther and brother for the first time. Such good people and damn Eric looked EXACTLY like his mother. It was suprising that they made it open casket. Morticians do amazing work. He still looked awful.

Anyway throughout the viewing i was fine then his brother said " wow martin, i can't beleive we never met, my brother admired and looked up to you like you couldnt beleive. He talked about you all the time." honestly at that point i couldnt hold down the tears.
That just broke my heart.

I really started to think of when i used to street race and how i would glorify all my wins and always be talkin about racing and how all my little brothers friends look up to me because they all seem to want the DSM's, 240's, and cars like that and i think i need to be more responsible and set a bet example and drop some knowledge on these guys about whats what in our community.

I just feel really down right now. Tomorrow is the funeral so i hope everything turns out ok.

My brother on the other hand is doing really well. He was one of the first to go into the funeral home and see Eric and he said he really got a lot of closure seeing him so peaceful and it really allowed him to let go of the bottled up emotions.

well i went from the funeral today. I have been to a lot of funerals and have never seen so many people at one all my life.

It was a very nice service. The pastor from his church did a great job and his family and friends a said all the right things. I saw alot of people i havent seen in a while and it was good to get the closure on everything after so much emotion the last couple of days.

My brother did very well today. He stayed strong but on our way from the Church to the Cemetary the radio played Linkin Park "IN THE END" which apparently was the song they always jammed too and he broke down in a really bad cry. I guess it was necessary.

Its all over now and all we can do is celebrate his memory.
