looking at getting some new rims, but im not to sure on what offset would work. some help would be cool. also what do you guys think about these rims, i like them but would like some opinions. thanks, :hellyeah:

XXR Wheels: 527 18x8.75 Chromium Black Rims

XXR Wheels: 522 17x8 Chromium Black Rims

XXR Wheels: 522 17x8 Gold Rims

An 8 inch wide rim is going to require 225s on it unless you want the rim to be wider than the tires. They are stock on my rx8 and are fractionally wider than the rims are. Keep the offset stock as that is how it is designed to reduce wear on the bearings and tire wear as well. Start getting out of range and you will be having tire wear and bearing wear issues and scrubbing if you go too wide without other mods. Rims are a matter of choice and looks for most

Best advice to give here is to get rims as light as possible so you keep unsprung weight low and, this will help with handling, braking, and accelerating as well if you can get lighter than stock rims. It will be fractional.

The other 'catch 22' is a wider wheel/tire combo will give you better traction as the contact patch is larger but, I would not get crazy with it. Best bet if you want to go with 18s is to stay around stock offset and stock width. Not sure if 2gs are same as 1gs on offset as 1gs are around +35. Stock width for 2gs is 7" so get the rims you want and stay within the range and you are good to go.

I am at stock height right now. I dont see how lowering will affect my setup. I plan to lower her at least 1.5 inches in the near future.

I thought stock offset for dsm's was 45 or 46 and not 35

It is usually in multiples of 3 and the 1g (stated earlier) is around +35 but, not sure about the 2g as they have revised suspension. It is probably higher but how much, I do not know. My point is to keep that as close to stock as that is the centerline for weight on the wheel bearing. Go too + or - too much and you will start having issues with bearing wear and tire wear. I am sure there is a 2g person that knows the stock offset or about what it is. Just do not go putting on negative offset rims or hugely wide + offset rims that are not close to stock on this number.

Stock 2g offset is +46. Under 30 starts to lead to bearing wear.

Thanks for the info. I am not quite as familiar with the 2g as the 1g. I knew that 2gs had much better potential for wheel/tire combos with different suspension and geometry. My 90 talon had issues with 215/45/17s with a +48 offset (was on the car when I bought it). I put rpf1s on it with the +35 and new tires and been running well and no unusual wear now.

I took it to an alignment/tire shop that I had been dealing with for over 20 years when I still had the 17s on it and, they put it on their alignment machine and it was aligned just fine and did no adjustments to it. They checked the bearings for play and the suspension. All were good. They even checked to see if the frame was bent any and was good.

The reason I say this is because many people like to put 'strange' combos of wheels and tires on their cars and next thing you know, bearings go and tires wear out funny.

I put 4 new tires and rims on the talon and they still look nearly new after nearly 15k miles. The 17s wore on the front and cupped on the back due to the offset in just over 3k miles. It is possible, for those that say that is not possible for one or more of the wheels to be out of balance....Had them all tested and did have one bent wheel but, it was balanced and, it was bent just slightly and would not have caused the issues I was having.

I sold those wheels to a guy that had an eclipse NA and he put new tires on the wheels and never had a problem but, his was a 2g. My .02 worth.
