Would this rim size/offset work?

Boring, Oregon
So after spending some time trying to figure this out I thought I'd post and see if someone could offer some helpful insight or at least point me in the right direction as I couldn't find my potential setup in any of the fitment guide people have made. I'm looking at some 17x8.5 +30 rims and have 225/45/17 tires on my current rims, while they are not that crazy wide I think it may help not rub but am not 100% sure. So yea basically 225/45/17 on 17x8.5 +30...my car is 95 2g, at some point in its life the rear tire well lip was trimmed about a 1/2" if I had to guess and front is unrolled and untouched. Thanks for any help figuring this out!

On my 2ga with a 17x8 +35 Evo 8 wheel with 245/40 tires, I have 4mm of clearance on the inside to the knuckle.

Comparing that setup to your setup (using wheel specs only), you'll have 1mm less inside clearance. So it will be really close. Not enough space in my opinion. If you want to gain more clearance, either run a spacer or swap to 2gb rear knuckles which will gain you about 4-5mm more clearance.

Wheel offset calculator I used to calculate the differences in the setups.

17x8.5 with a 225/45 series tire is gonna be okay, not quite stretched but that depends on the brand/style tire. The 30MM is gonna push the wheel out towards the fender, so you may or may not rub. It all boils down to your suspension setup and alignment then. People run Evo rims on their 2G without problem, and they are 17x8 w/ 38M offset, so I would venture you'll be okay. You should search stanced 2G to get ideas and info. Google is your friend, good luck thought I love the way 2G's look with the flush/stanced style.

I noticed that calculator says the outer portion will extend 11mm more then the evo rims....is that cause for concern or is that just a guarantee I'll have to roll the fenders? Like I stated the rear of my car isn't rolled but the lip was trimmed about half inch and the front is untouched so I'm not sure if that is or isn't gonna be enough. I know I can tweak the rear camber to help but it would be sweet to keep it near spec or somewhat close.

There was a piece of into I left out, I'm lowered with yellows and h&r sports...I also decided to measure where the rear inner fender was trimmed and it was actually roughly 3/4"....even better LOL... anyways so lets make sure i got this, in order have proper spacing and avoid replacing the rear knuckle with these rims I would have to use spacers. Doing that would reduce the offset even more making the possibility of rubbing on the outer fender higher. I'm almost looking away from these rims just based on the potential trouble. I'll have to do some looking to find something that's a little more fool proof with fitment as I would not at all be OK with rubbing like a champ for a cool look.

A spacer would further increase offset. The wheels you have right now are 17x8.5 +30; if you add a spacer, be it 5, 10,,,30, it's going to move the wheel farther away from the hub. So you have 30MM offset, then you add 10MM spacer, your offset is now +20. Your wheel face is pushed out to either being flush with your fender or poking out past it. Does that make sense, or did I just make this more confusing...

A 225/45 series tire is going to stretch unless it's a R-compound slick or semi slick.

For some reason I have a feeling that I tried my 17x8.5" +30mm rims from my VR4 on someones 2G before and they did poke. I really can't remember how much though.

No that makes perfect sense! I got a chance to get my car on a lift yesterday and cut out the frozen toe arm eccentric...in the process i came to find that I have the 98-99 knuckles...its easy to overlook but nice to know they made their way on the car at some point.

I just found a deal on the same rims w/tires but an inch larger and half inch wider (18x9 with 225/40/18 +35) and although it makes less functional sense to go larger I can't say the thought hasn't crossed my mind due to how cheap i can get them and the higher offset. If your only looking at fitment would the 18s at +35 with the 225s fit better then the previous setup I asked about.....wait I asked too soon next stop is the links already provided...

I'm not a wheel expert or anything, but an 18x8 35 offset should fit with no trouble at all. Isn't the factory gsx wheel 17x7 35 or 38 offset?

I have 17x9 Rota Grids on my Subaru and they currently have INVO's on them in 225/40/17, and they have that stretched look. I don't care for the size nor do I feel comfortable with that size. I want more meat on my tire so I think I'll go with a 235/40 and see how much clearance I have between the tire and my suspension. I'd like 245/40's but don't want to have to worry about rubbing anywhere and needing either a spacer for the tires to play nice with the strut, or roll the fenders to keep from chewing up the tires over bumps.

I got a deal with the Grids, but would've preferred a different sized tire with them. So, if you're gonna score a deal on rims w/ tires go for it, but in the long run consider a wider tire. My concern is hitting a pot hole or something that causes the bead to break on the seal between the tire and rim since it's kinda stretched.
