Right offset for 18x8.5's

I'm not going back to a 225. 235/40/18 is not that bad. I would rather have a nice tire in a 235/40/18 then a cheap tire in 245/35 or 255/35

, anyways my buddy is selling some wheels he had on his evo. he says they are 18's by 8.5 wide. he also says the offset is 38mm. will they or will they not work? i dont mind rolling the fenders if i have to...

How tall would a 235/40/18 be?

I know this thread is old, but the correct way to determine the diameter of the tire above is:

235/40/18
235 = width of tire in millimeters
40 = sidewall aspect ratio in % or mean radius, which is outer radius minus inner radius.
18 = diameter of wheel.
So, the formula is as follows:
convert mm to inches 235mm*(1in/25.4mm) = 9.25" tire width
Now for the sidewall.
9.25" x .40 = 3.7" x 2 because these are 2 when finding diameter.
Then simply add your wheel diameter.

235mm*(1in/25.4mm)*.40*2+18 = 25.4"

I'd get a 40+ offset and stretch 225/45s on them, so they'd fit like a 40 series tire.

For sure you'd be needing to roll your rear quarter panel inside lip.
