I ordered a clutch and flywheel off of ebay recently. The clutch came in last week and just got the flywheel. I was talking back and forth with teh place where I bought the clutch from to make sure that this one would work with the 420a. They were for sure that it was a420a clutch, and not a 4g63. It's an ACT clutch and Fidenza flywheel.

When I tried to piece the parts together, the pins on the flywheel are off just a little and won't meeting up the the pressure plate properly.

This was the auction:
ACT Clutch kit for Eclipse DSM 420A 2.0l Talon 4 pc kit:eBay Motors (item 180372789307 end time Jul-10-09 13:32:36 PDT)

Did they lie to me and sell me the wrong clutch?

Have you tried spinning the pressure plate to different holes? I know mine would only line up a certain way. Also make sure not to use the throw out brearing with that kit, the ACT throw out bearing are junk. Go to the dealership and get yourself an OEM TOB.

The part numbers for the pressure plate and clutch disc are both for the 2G 4G63 transmission - they will not fit your transmission. You should've been wary as soon as you saw "1992-2005 Mitsubishi Eclipse" as the 420A Eclipse was only made between 1995 and 1999.

I noticed that but I was emailing the people directly and asked about the proper discs and everything for my application / mod list. They seemed pretty knowledgable. Guess I was wrong. Time to call them.

Any clutches anyone would recommend for ~400whp?

Thanks.

The key word you are looking for when shopping clutches for the 420a is a "modular clutch" (one piece fully pre-assembled).

If I wanted a modular clutch, then yes it would a key word. Specifically wanted non-modular so I can use a lightweight flywheel and make changes later on.

You can't swap to a non-stock flywheel when using a modular clutch? That's news to me. So they sent you the correct flywheel buy the wrong clutch and pressure plate?

I bought them from 2 different places. Flywheel is for the 420a, clutch/pressure are 4g63. The store is saying that ACT told them directly that it was a 420a kit. Now I haven't heard from them since last week. I better get my money back.

If you can't get your money back for it, I'm sure you could likely recoup most of the cost by selling in the classifieds here.

Ya I'm too concerned about selling it, but I should get every penny back from the company.

It's so ahrd to find a good clutch for these cars.

SouthBend Clutch. I think they were linked already in this thread. Ask for Andy. (if he still works there)
