Reviving the engine.....at a painfully gradual rate

Winter is full of bitter cold days and I make slow progress. I bring the head assembly into a machine shop. They report that it's warped beyond repair. The intake manifold is also so clogged, with what looks to be hardened carbon deposits, I'm forced to toss it as well.

But, I catch a lucky break and find out that a friend of a friend specializes in nothing but 4G63 heads. I pick up a new head and intake.

I'm finally forced to relocate the Laser to my parents place when my g/f moves out of her apartment. My parent's place is about two hours away, so I don't get much time to work on it.
I get the new head on, along with 3G lifters, and start on the water pump and timing belts.

Finally, to keep me motivated in these trying times, my g/f gets me a motivational birthday cake
