check the bushings also it could be worn out.
give it a little cleaning with wd40 works for me.

It can only really be a few things.
Check to make sure nothing is in the way of the cables. Make sure all the bushings and bracketry is all tight.

Pull your center console, make sure nothing is hitting or hanging up on the shifter.

It's probably something internal to your transmission.

My bet would be on either
loose end shaft nuts which are 36mm nuts that hold the 5th/Reverse gearset in place.
A missing or bad reverse wave spring, or a missing/stuck shift detent ball for the 5th/Rev shift rail.
If you're brave enough you can access this without pulling the trans, you just have to remove the front case.
Also make sure your transmission is tight, bellhousing is uncracked, and all your mounts are in.

You can usually tell if the shaft nuts are loose by when you let off the gas the shifter will rock back and forth while driving (like 5th)

That being said I've also had bearing failure so bad that it caused the gearsets to have so much play to cause the same thing *I believe*

It could ALSO be something with your 5/R hub and slider, but I'm no transmission expert!

Before my tranny got rebuilt my car would slip out of first and reverse all the time.

I hate to say it, but if the simple stuff does not fix it for you I'd bet on it being something inside transmission.

However my transmission did this for months before getting it rebuilt so you might at least have time to save money if it really is the transmission.

I hope it's something simple.:thumb:

I had the same problem, it was the clutch adjustment - heres a vid if you need it

Proper Clutch Adjustment - YouTube

edit: just want to say how much better this made my clutch feel after the master cyl replacement
This video is retarded it should be titled "how to adjust your clutch so it engages an inch before it's all the way out and will bend/break your clutch fork" This is in NO way how to properly adjust a clutch pedal LOL

On these trannys if you have problems getting it into reverse try letting the clutch out to the point of just barely grabbing while lightly pulling the shifter into reverse. The teeth on the reverse idler gear get rounded (instead of sharp) which makes it hard to engage the input & intermediate shafts when they are stopped.

I've noticed pulling it out of gear, and letting the clutch out, then putting the clutch back in, and pushing it into reverse helps as well.

I've done every little trick. Letting out the clutch slow, going into 5th then to reverse, etc etc. I plan on replacing the linkage bushings with bearings but just haven't gotten around to it yet. To me judging by how fair it goes into gear it does not seem like it goes in far enough. So that could be a clue as to a bushing problem. I will check the bushings and then check the 36mm nuts in the transmission. Thanks for the info guys I will check back in when I rip into this...

Sounds like you have rounded off the synchros.. OR your pedals need to be rebuilt like i just did at sheptrans.com... If your clutch pedal is not even, or higher than your brake pedal, then that is your culprit, or you just killed the synchros... try double clutching, and add mt-90 and synchromesh tranny fluid to your trans! big help for my car! Happy new year all! Pm me with any questions, i love to help!
