Alright, I just installed a newly rebuilt transmission from T.R.E. Before I had the transmission rebuilt I still had this problem which leads me to believe that it is in the linkage and not directly related to transmission internals. When I shift my car into reverse I can only give it slight gas to roll backwards, or it will pop out of gear, and that is if i am on a completely flat surface. The same thing also happens if I have to reverse out of an inclined surface. When it pops out and spins it makes a zzzzz sound. Just wondering if anyone has had the same problem. Thanks in advance for any feedback.
 
I had the same problem in my old N/T and it required a new reverse/1st gear. Seeing as you just got it rebuilt, I hope thats not your problem, but that's my experience with it.
 
sounds like your linkage needs to be adjusted. i would hope your synchronizer is not the problem after a fresh rebuild, or did they replace you locker rings and syncro?
 
Yup i am having the same prob but i don't know how to mess with all that linkage and stuff. if some one can give me, or us, a detailed over haul that would be great :thumb:
 
a Chilton's manual would outline the procedure much better and quicker than i. i would check in to one.
 
Both chiltons and haynes are very vague when it comes to transmissions. Best bet is if you know someone who can get on All Data or Mitchell on demand to get the procedure fo you. There is also the manual cd but I forget the website since I use all data now. If you give me more specific details i.e. year, make, model, drivetrain I can look it up for you and see if I can get it on to a disk for you. If not I'll try and scan it or something. Let me know what you want to do.
 
i thought chiltons did an ok job.
 
Chilton does not reccomend working on your own tranny. The one that I have says you should take it to an approved transmission shop. And what they do provide is extremly vague, and it leavs out a lot of important stuff. If you've ever used all data you would see how worthless a chiltons manual really is. If you wans something looked up let me know and I can do it.
 
Where can i get an all data manual or cd or whatever it is. because i do alot of work on my car myself and i HATE to pay F**** labor charges!!!!
 
All Data is like $5000, there use to be a website where you could get the dsm manual on cd I think it was www.manualcd.org owww.manualcd.dsm.org some thing like that sorry if neither of those work. But you could purchase the and use it at home. Check it out.
 
Thanks for the replies. I have that data cd so I will check into into it this weekend. Ill post the diagnosis after I do it so hopefully it helps out some others witht he same problem.
 
Well if you are talking about the two bolts that are under the end cover (the cover that sits against the passenger side sub frame rail), then yeah they could do it since it is reverse gear. But those bolts are pinched on and for them to come loose, either the pinch is loose, the bolt is broken, or someone took it apart and didn't but it back together correctly. Hope that helps.
