Popping out of 4th

I personally dont know anything about transmissions really. Actually, they kinda scare me cuz if somethin goes wrong with my tranny all i see is $$$ floating out my wallet. Well anyway, my car has this problem of coming out of 4th gear on its own if Im going down the highway. It doesnt really do it if I put my had on it and add alittle resistance while Im in 4th. It doesnt do it in any other gear besides 4th. My transmission was replaced about a year ago and I just pray to god that this isnt a big deal. Also, Im looking at buying a Fidanza Short Shifter with Symborski Shifter kit. Will that help it out any? Or can I get in there and maybe fix it when I put these on?

It is more than likely just out of adjustment. Try to get the cables adjusted and make shure nothing has found its way under your shift boot to block its path! Hope this helps and good luck!

Is cable adjustment something I can do myself or will I need to take it to a mechanic?

Get a repair manual (Haynes, Chilton, or DSM CD), its the first thing you should do when you get a DSM. It explains how to adjust it in there. Trust me you'll use the repair manula a lot.

my car does the same thing in reverse, but normally its when i first start rolling, it doesnt normally happen if im cruzing in reverse also it doesnt happen if i slam the shifter in there,....

edit: forgot one last thing... the reason why i posted.....

will an adjustment help my problem?
