So I finally get her 95awd to a point that I feel its safe for her to drive more than just to the corner store. She takes it to work thismorning and stops for gas. Pulls out of the gas station and romps on it to get on the freeway. She said it just started knocking really loud so she pulled over and shut it off. She restarts it after a couple minutes and its still knocking so she shuts it off and gets a ride home from a friend and calls a tow truck. So I come to meet the truck and decide to check it for myself. I start it and its knocking all to hell and back. So all morning Im scratching my head trying to figure out what happened.
THEN IT DAWNS ON ME! I call he and ask her what kind of gas she got. She says unleaded. I ask ok but regular or what? She says regular! Im friggin pissed right now. How do you put regular in a car that says PREMIUM ONLY on the gauge cluster AND on the inside of the fuel door? I even told her when we got the car that she can ONLY use premium. Keep in mind were talking about a 95 with no bcs and it was already running 15 psi on a 14b. I had also told her not to floor it because I hadnt gotten it dialed in completely yet. It still needed some tweaking.

Ohh well live and learn. Now im sitting on a 95 GSX that Im not even sure what to do with it. I don't know if I should rebuild my extra angine, part it out, or just try to sell it as is. She says #### it just sell it but Im not so sure about that. I kinda like having an extra car arround to drive in case mine is acting up. What would you do?

Throwing one tank of 87 into a car with stock injectors with a 14b at 15psi isn't going to kill it. It already had a problem and you need to find what it is. Knocking can be anything from a bad bearing to a lazy lifter to a bad idler. Some knocks are easy and cheap. Some you'd rather never find. Keep looking into it and maybe take it to someone with some experience.

So you dont think 15-16 psi on a stock ecu and 87 octane wont blow the motor without a bcs to lower boost if it starts knocking? I have seen 12 deg of knock retard on stock injectors on a t28 with similar boost. I know a t28 will flow a little more than a 14b but I think that what Im saying is entirely possible here. There werent any other issues with the engine before this. Im experienced enough to know that the bottom end of the engine is pretty likely badly damaged. Im going to check the crank pulley but Im pretty sure thats not it since I put a good one on 2 months ago and I also just replaced the injectors right after that. There is no way this noise is an idler pulley.

Its not the crank pulley.

Rebuild it stronger, and make her pay for the parts ;)

Pretty much. The knock system on our cars is actually pretty wonderful and in many cases can save an engine even with complete failure of an injector or fuel line. If you continually run 87 octane you can really cause a lot of premature wear but just filling it up once even on a fairly heavily modified car wont kill it alone. If you weren't on a stock ecu and perhaps had a sketchy tune then who knows. Pull the pan off take pictures and inspect everything. You might just get away with new bearings if you don't keep turning it on.

my wife know only 93 in mine.well all the cars i had for the last 3 years.LOL

I understand that the knock sensor system is great but Im pretty sure this is what happened. Now maby there was shitty machine work inviolved when the engine was built by the previous owner 2k miles ago but this is a new build and the only thing that was different today was the fuel.

Btw this is not my green machine. Its a white 95 that is being discussed.

Engine ignition knock isn't a sound you'd hear that'd make you turn off the engine.

You have bearing troubles. The driver at the time had nothing to do with it.

Yeap thats not going to kill that motor. People run these cars stock at 20psi all the time detonating to hell and back. These motors can take a lot of abuse. People can have crappy tunes with 20+ counts of knock and still take years to kill the motor.

This is a 7 bolt right. Could have had some crank walk and now the bearings went. I would rebuild it. You can do an OEM build for about $1000 if you get the parts and have a machine shop assemble it.
