[RESOLVED] vibration when driving, all wheels just balanced

Hi, 96 tsi fwd, at all speeds car vibrates, when driveing the car it starts to shake and moan at around 20mph.. when i turn to the right it drives like NEW.. when i drive straight it shakes ,and when i turn left it shakes. car is lowered, springs and shocks check to be ok, wheels were just balanced, and cvjs are new, Im thinking Wheel Bearings??? what do you think????????? THANKS

Check ball joints and tie rod ends. Did you get an alignment after you lowered the car?

You say you think it might be the wheel bearing. Have you checked them? Are the tires new?

It can be a bad tire too, probably your front right tire. Wheel can be balanced but having a bad tire. The roundness of it got deformation somewhere , wich make your car to shake.

What happens while coasting in neutral?

Did you replace just the CV's, or the entire axle? If the latter, is it seated properly? Is it the correct one?

With all that work you did, have you checked to see if a brake pad is hanging up on the rotor?

I just had the exact same problem bro.. The right turn thing was the giveaway.. Its your wheel bearings.. Problem solved

both front tires new.... rears are crappy, but working on the front stuff for now!!!! The new wheel bearings should be here tommorow,, il throw them in and let you know... Thanks guys

Yea, the moaning at that certain speed gave it away as well ... shot bearings.

I didnt read all the other posts, basicly getting the wheels balanced is USELESS when it comes to feeling a tire vibration, you have to have a ROADFORCE balance to eliminate tire vibrations, the roadforce balance puts a loaded drum on the tire and simulates actual driving conditions to find problems with a tire that tire balancing will never find.

Wheel bearings: REALLY bad bearings are noticable if you jack up the car and try to 'wobble' the tire, you fill free play in the bearing, also wheel bearings can be found various other ways but the methods used to diag them arent the safest for the average 'car guy' to try. Sometimes you can carefully spin the tire and feel for roughness, and you can also compare from side to side. Wheel bearings take experience to diag, most of the time.
