hey guys i have a question. so ive been having some problems with my gst that i just recently got. its been acting really weird, like before i was thinking its a boost leak, but i fixed the blow off valve and theres no way its a leak. so i took it to my friends dads shop today who has like a general mechanic shop. he was like well i think the problem for your car running rich, check engine, and "lag" that you have while going through the rpms is because the intake is attatched to the turbo and not to the engine. he said the previous owner had done some custom piping or something that made the intake hook to the turbo and not the engine. is that even possible? or is the intake really supposed to be hookeed up to the turbo? he said he'll try to find me a stock gst intake and put that in the engine and everything will run fine again.im really not sure because im new to GST's and ive had a regular gs for a while. so just some info would be nice. if you want i can take some pictures of the engine and stuff tomorrow and see if anythings wrong to your eyes.

thanks

Intakes are hooked to the turbo to prevent debris from going into the turbine and engine. there is no wrong way to an engine*. Check your MAF electronics and make sure they are connected tight. If you are still having problems take out the air filter and make sure the honey combs are there, the person before might have taken them out for more horsepower, but when you do and dont have a large turbo they cause problems like that.

+1

And not for nothing, if this mechanic thinks the intake is supposed to be on the engine on a turbo car and not on the turbo where it should be he obviously doesn't know much about turbo cars and you probably shouldn't let him work on it.

pics?

the intake is suppost to go to your turbo.

filter-maf-lower intercooler pipe-intercooler-uper intercooler piping-engine.

that's how it should look.

The intake goes to the turbo,Id worry about the mechanic as well if he doesnt know turbo cars that well.

yea thats what i thought, cause on the other gsts i saw the intake was connected to the turbo. guess i wont be taken the car to that mechanic. i actually wanna do the work myself but its so hard when i dont know what the problem is and i hear so many different things. i took it to my friend down the street who has an STI and i guess knows alot about turbo cars and he was saying something about the turbo spinning the wrong way and getting turbo surge or something??? i dunno ill prob get pics up tomorrow. 50trimmed1g was supposed to come take a look and see if he can help me out but his backs been hurtin from workin on his gsx. so hopefully when hes better hell come take a look since hes familiar with turbo eclipse's. also if anyone knows any people in california particularly Socal OC area please pm me

1. Fill out your profile correctly, this includes all aftermarket add-ons,boost settings, etc.. You currently have your car listed as a N/T with headers.
2. Have your check engine light read. This can be done for free at Autozone, or by other auto stores that will lend you their scanner.
3. Do a boost leak test.
4. Do not go back to that mechanic, the intake is supposed to be connected to the turbo.
5. As for the compressor surge that you think you might have, what BOV do you have, and how do you have it hooked up?

What the heck is "acting really wierd"? Can't really make a diagnosis out of that.

Remember, an undefined problem has in infinite number of solutions.

well i got 2 eclipses. and theres only room to fill out on your profile for one car. so what am i supposed to do. when i made this account i only had one but now i have 2.

and to answer chicos question its got a blitz ss blow off valve and what do you mean how do i have it hooked up???

How do you have the vacuum line that goes to the BOV run?

alright so i finally took pictures of the engine today, please tell me if you guys see anything wrong.
[Yeah. The pics are 'way the hell too big. And stop venting your BOV.]

thanks!!!!

thats a stock turbo right???

and to answer your question about a detailed description of what is wrong. well on the lower gears when you accelerate to higher rpms mainly from 4-5 thousand and up the car almost starts to shake. and you can hear the turbo kinda messin up.it happens on higher gears too but not as bad. but once it starts shaking if you take your foot off the gas and slowly push it it kinda eases up and the rpm goes up slowly.

Your problems are coming from your vented BOV

your BOV needs to be rerouted to your intake tube when you have a stock 2g MAS.

Do this and report back.

P.s you intake is fine.

That boot connecting your throttle body elbow to your upper IC pipe looks like it's crimped. If it is it could be blocking airflow. Also have you checked your plugs and wires? Also as xxShaneOmac stated, rerout your BOV dump back into your intake tract and it will run a lot better. Do a proper boost leak test. Good luck man, these things can be a real PITA. When you figure it out make sure you let us know.

Alright guys, i finally got to feeel the full power of my DSM today. prob one of the greatest feelings ever LOL. so with the help of 50trimm we finally got my car fixed. the problem wasnt from the bov or intake or any of those things. so my car is really really low, and the previous owner before me must have hit a rock or something on the road because on the stock oil resuovar plastic container or something i dont even know what its called. its connected to the lower intercooler pipes. there was a BIG BIG BIG crack/hole in that and thats what was causing my problems. so we went to the muffler shop and got him to cut a small peice of stainless steel and put that inplace of the plastic container thing. so now no more air leaks out and it runs like a beastttt. thanks to everyone who tried to help me out with this i really appreciate it.

ill have some pics up later

Even though your problem was resolved you should recirculate your BOV for optimum performance. There is a reason why engineers made the car that way from factory. Recirculate it.

yea but i got the bov on the car, i cant find the mini filter that goes one the bov and is connected to the intake with a hose. so if i do wannt to do that id have to get a new bov.
