[RESOLVED] Something rotating is clicking

The other night my car developed a clicking sound from somewhere in front. It sounds like it's coming from the drivers side axle or something. I can't really hear it unless I'm next to something for the sound to bounce off, so it's not that loud. It seems like everytime the tire rotates it clicks. I have heard that cv joints will click when they are going bad, but I don't know. I havn't had any time to go out and look at the car yet, so I figured I would make a post here and see if anyone knew about this.

maybe you got a rock in your tire, could be the axle bearings are going out.

ok, it got a lot louder tonight. Now I can feel the wheel twitch every time it clacks. It's enough to make me borrow my dads truck and not drive my car tomorrow. It's definitely not a rock, any other ideas?

The wheel doesn't vibrate though... Come to think of it, I think it might be my carrier bearing. Reason being: when I put my tranny back in last year, one of the carrier bearing bolts seemed stripped, but it was tight so I was like whatev. Looks like it may have came back and bit me in the ass

Dunno yet though, I've been so busy that i havn't had any time to look at it. I might get to it tomorrow morning.

Sounds like it is the CV joints. The really only way to tell is get underneath and check for leaking axxle grease or a torn CV boot. Usually when the boot tears the grease leaks out and the joints then dy up causing the clicking noise. One question though, does it click when you turn or all the time?

It clicks going in a straight line at speeds below 25-30. When turn the wheel either way, it goes away. But it will come back if the wheel is turned and held sometimes.

I would suggest just replacing the halfshafts. It is about the same to replace the whole halfshaft then just do the cv joints themselves. And if you go to autozone they half a lifetime warranty on the half shafts!

well got a chance to look at it today... The first thing I noticed when I took the wheel off was that two lug nuts were loose. I rotated the wheel around and it was silent. So I put the tire back on and there was no sound. So I guess that was my problem.

I know this thread is resolved, but I can't tell you how many times I've seen lug nut problems on Mitsu's. My brother had the same complaint 2 weeks ago and we were putting lowering springs on his 94 talon, I was able to take 3 lug nuts off with just my hands, all on the same wheel... yikes!

I was expecting to pay hundreds of dollars to buy the parts, and then spend all weekend putting them on too. Whew!
