Well my ac is on and off. I noticed when it does blow cold I see some vapor or some kind of smoke coming out of the center vent. When the ac starts blowing warm it goes away.

Your car should still contain R12, unless it's been converted to 134a.

What you're probably seeing is the dry, cool air first making contact with the damp, warm air in your car. This will cause the ducts to appear to throw a "fog." Very common on older R12 systems that are working properly.

Oh I get it, thankyou. I see foam in the sight glass but when I check the refigerant level with a gauge it says it's average. It blows cool but not cold, then it slowly goes to warm. Any idea why?

Your simptoms are the exact same as mine back on my old 97 GS. It turned out to be the heater core. Im not sure if its the same on a 1g but you can remove your interior trim panels by the radio and have a look-see for any green liquid: coolant. My $0.02

Mine does the same... starts semi cold then goes warm... not to fun when its 90 out
Your compressor is cycling....most likely due to low charge of freon.

If the system is fully charged, the compressor shouldn't cycle with the a/c on max and the system set to recirc.
