So I feel kinda dumb, but I am trying to get this m100 to hook up to my computer so I can install the logger software on it, but for the life of me I can't get this thing to sync to the computer. I have no serial connector on the computer, so I picked up a serial to usb adapter. I installed it, the drivers it came with, installed the palm desktop software then opened up the palm desktop. I told it to install the logger software and it said ok and told me it would be installed next time I synced. So I try to sync to the palm, and it runs up like it is going to, but then says "Connection between handheld and desktop could not be established. Please check setup and try again". What am I doing wrong??

Yes I did, it gave me a palm desktop and that't it. I also tried to see if it needed an update or anything. I really want to get this think running. I dont want to install SAFC without a logger. But I am out of ideas.

okay what you do since you have the palm desktop working is to open mmcd. or whatever you are using when you have the palm hooled up and it should open up and ask if you want to sync it

then you do that

if it doesnt work just call me i will pm you my number

Well that's just it, I cant get the mmcd onto the palm because I can't sync it with the computer. It always fails when I try to get it to sync up. The only thing I can think of it to try and buy another serial to usb adapter and see if that helps.

I had to change my COM1 address in my bios

I have a Db9 connector on my motherboard but it still did the same thing due to conflict with other devices listed on COM1, I set it to auto detect and it fixed my problem right away...

It may be the same since you have a usb to Db9 adaptor

This is really starting to upset me. I have new fuel injectors and a SAFCII that I do not want to install untill I can get this logger working. I found another usb to serial adapter, but still no joy. I have tried changing the COM port that I am using as well, but nothing.

Exactly which usb to serial adapter are you using? Things you need to do: Download Palm Desktop for your specific Palm, download the mmcd.prc file from the internet, install the software for your adapter(and hope it is compatible, I had one that wasn't so I ended up going with a Keyspan unit) and know which com port you are using it in. After Palm Desktop has downloaded, find the Hotsync icon down by your clock (make sure serial is checked and in preferences make sure the right com port is selected for syncing). Turn on the palm and try to Hot-sync. If everything goes well, install the mmcd.prc file. I fiddled around with mine forever and finally got it to work. Dustin

I did all the stuff you said, only thing I guess it could be would be the usb to serial adapter. The first one I had was a x then I borrowed one my buddy had that is just some generic cheapo looking unit. I guess I can just get the keyspan on online and see if that helps me out.
Like I said, other than that I did everything else you said. I got palm desktop for my m100, I got mmcd and told palm desktop to install it. I see it waiting to be installed next time I sync. I see the hotsync icon running down in my taskbar and it is set to the correct COM port. When I pretty sync on the palm unit it pops up on the computer and shows like it is about to sync, but then it says failed. Hopefully this third adapter will help me out if I get it.

mnost of the tuner software recommends against the adapters as they will not work right... might try getting a straight usb to palm cable. thats what i had to do. usb for the comp serial for the car

Ok, I went ahead and got me a keyspan usb - serial adapter and that was that. Logger is up and running. Thanks for all the ideas guys!
big d you had it right, glad you mentioned the keyspan unit!
