[RESOLVED] Name that purple box!

Ok I recently acquired a 2 g parts car, and in the back seat was this shiny purple box with a controller of some sort connected to it. (I would provide a pic but I am away from home until Friday) It is about the size of an ecu and the controller looks the size of a code reader. The controller says efisystems on it but the purple box says not a darn thing on it. I also located a jumper harness that looks like it goes from the stock ecu harness to this computer I guess. So obviously it is a ecu of some sort but have yall ever heard of it or who makes it? I guess I could plug it into my 2g talon but I dont want to screw anything up, plus if it is tuned differently than stock it may not work right? I know pics would be helpful but I am away for the week at school.

Probably the aftermarket PMS normally used in mustangs and other fords. I've heard of others using them. Check out their website to see if that's what it looks like.

I checked there is a manufacture called EFI systems Inc. They have a web page that describes what it sounds to be an ECU replacement for our car.

Kind of but it must be older because the controller looks more like a TV remote than a controller. The back of it also has a list of numbers corresponding to things like boost and n20. The purple box looks similar. So can I just plug this baby in to my 2g and see what happens or do I have to do something else first?

Those are very nice.
I am a ford guy also and i have seen a few pms systems before.
You should be able to do whatever you want with that bad boy.
Im not too sure but i think you have to leave that plugged in all the time to run the ECU, or is the GST ECU flashable?

You should download that zip file and read through it. Its so simple if you understand fuel trims, A/F ratios, etc. I made my own tune for my mustangs and then modified the A/F w/ Sniper Tuning Software & a wideband O2.
Get down to the dyno and tune that thing & lets see what it puts out
And if you don want it i might be able to use it

Well I probably will not use it now, but I will keep it for a while just in case. My question is since it was plugged into and tuned for another 2g would it even work just plugging it into mine and trying to start my car?

I remember years backing thinking about purchasing one of these PMS systems used from another local. I don't recall the specifics now but at the time I believe it was a nice upgrade compared to the SAFC/logger combo but there was atleast one major feature it was missing vs DSMLink, which is why I spent the extra on it. I'm thinking its a timing issue like your typical piggyback system but not sure now. Since you didn't actually pay for it, might as well give it a try

Well I kind of paid for it ...it came in a parts car i bought for basically nothing. I guess I will hook it up and try and find a way to set it default or factory tune and start from there. I should be able to use this to adjust for larger injectors and such right?

Im not sure if its locked to that ecu in the parts car, he might have reset it before he took it apart but i doubt it, or if you can just plug it in to a different ecu each time and go. I doubt you can just keep reusing it on different cars. I may be wrong.

You could always call and ask the guy couldnt you?

I thought it was its own ecu? The wire harness inside the car plugs into this jumper and the jumper plugs into the purple box. I did read that the ecu could have a passcode set that you must enter to get into "tuning mode". If this is the case I may try calling efisystems and seeing what they have to say. I am sure they will just think it is stolen though.

Also the original person in Austin who installed it had something happen to cause the car to be parked. Then another person bought it and towed it to San Antonio and stole the turbo and back glass. It sat for another year and then I bought it. I dont really have a way to contact the original person who installed it. Lol like a soap opera huh?!

im sure there is a way to find out the code plug it in and see if it has one dont just sit an wonder
