Background: I've been having problems with my car lately, I just replaced my crank sensor and the car started right up. I drove it around maybe 7 miles and as I was pulling into my driveway (there is a tiny little bump to get in the driveway) the car just cut right off. It keeps blowing the 30 amp ignition fuse for some reason now. It was doing this before and I took it to a shop who "traced" it to the turbo timer and they told me the turbo timer was bad. After this happened to me again today I pulled the turbo timer completely out of the car.

Alright, I just took a look at the wires on the alternator and starter. Everything appears to be in good shape. There are no wires that are visible or worn down. However, I did find this.

Neither me or my dad can figure out exactly what it was. Jay seen it when I was over at his house about a month ago. Back then I had it just all taped up. I believe stock, there is a plastic case like thing that covers the yellow part of the piece and it is attached somehow to the passenger side frame. As you can see the piece does have a wire that seems to have been broken or disconnected from the piece and it does unplug as shown in the picture. My dad has been looking in the Chilton's manual all day trying to find out what the piece is and does. It has two black wires going to it with a yellow stripe down the middle, then it has another blue wire that I believe is supposed to be attached to the piece as well. Again none of the wires look frayed or exposed to be grounded onto the chassis or maybe the transmission, I'm thinking the reason it's blowing out fuses has something to do with whatever this piece is. I remember awhile back when me and my dad first found it exposed and hanging down almost hitting the ground, we taped it up and it was fine. I think more recently the blue wire broke off of it and it's causing problems now.

I got it fixed, I think... and I drove the car around about 3 hours just tonight. I left the piece (whatever it actually is) just unplugged and the car wouldn't blow any fuses. I even tried to purposely get the fuse to blow and it wouldn't do anything, everything appeared to be fine. However, I do have a check engine light now and I think it's because of that "piece". The clutch needs a tad adjustment and the tune set on it. Other then that, I think it's OK now. I plan on going over to the Mitsubishi dealer tomorrow afternoon and taking that piece and asking them what on earth it actually is... LOL

As far as I've gathered, it isn't needed, but if the wires are connected together, you get a short somewhere. I ripped mine out on the talon, and haven't noticed any ill-effects thus far.

That had to have been my short in my system. I just pulled the yellow part of the relay out and left the other part connected to the wire harness connected. It's been good to me so far!
