I just got done turning on my car 2 minutes ago and i saw my brake and battery light come on at the same time out of nowhere, earlier today they weren't on. My rear discs are wasted but i dont think that should cause my battery light to come on as well. I also had my alternator checked about 2 months ago and read 14.2-3 ish volts so i dont know what's the car's problem now :beatentodeath:. any help is appreciated.

A fully operational alternator operates at 13.8 volts with the engine running. Are these dummy lights on while the car is running?? As long as the parking brake is on the brake light is going to stay on. The battery light comes on as the key is turned on, but goes off after 5 seconds when operating normally.

I was always under the impression that when the alternator goes out the battery and SRS lights come on. What causes the brake light to come on??

Nope, not SRS.

SRS is the airbag light, it will only come on when there is something wrong with the SRS ECU or if the airbag has been deactivated.

As for why the brake light comes on - it iis my understanding that it is how a warning was built into the system. Brake light = Brake issues, Battery light = voltage issues, Brake light + Battery light = Alternator issues.

Thanks a lot wiseman i was suspecting my alternator was at fault. super97gst, the brake light was on even with the emergency brake down. It may sound weird but the alt. sorta was blowing out a little smoke before going to work but i made it safely back and forth, just switched the ac on to keep the area there cooled a bit. Will replace my alternator asap. Thanks for the help guys :thumb:
