I currently have a cracked piston in my 420a motor. I relized and was told that getting a swap to a 4G63 would be more expensive then i thought so i'm just going to build up on this motor. Now any suggestions on what i should do? it has 140,000 miles on it and if i want to boost it, i'm going to need a fresher engine. so new pistons/rods etc? what? any suggestions please
 
You could get a swap engine for about 1600 shipped from japan with low miles. I should come with an ecu and complete wireing harness. I think all you would need is intercooler and piping. And maybe oil cooler parts. 4g63 turbo motors are good for a lot more hp than a 420a. I would reccomend you get one with a big 16g and yellow top injectors too.
 
yeah, that's what i was going to exactly do. but i was told from other members of the website that the transmission and what not won't line up. like i can't just swap the motor, it isn't as easy as that. cause if it was, that's what i would just do. I have to do a lot more than just swap the motor in.

The 4g63 and the 420a are two completely different engines, with two different transmissions, mounted completely opposite of each other. Things just won't "swap in" without major fabrication, time, money, and experience. " -MrBoXx who's the moderator. and i was told by others it will cost more money to get all the fabrications done than just to build up the 420a, that's why i'm asking for any suggestions on what i should do with the little money i have. Money est. 4500
 
A 4g63 swap is not going to be an economical decision and you'll find that out very fast as you're staring at the engine you just purchased wondering how you're even going to get it in. Sell it or fix it, but don't swap it unless your financial adviser told you that you have too much money
 
i love my 420a but................. i agree with EagleTsi, sell it and add it to the rest of your money and buy a gsx. Because if your like me you looked for a turbo eclipse first, but didnt find one till after you purchased your 420a.
 
Oh snap. Here we go again...

The swap is DEFINITELY out. Glad to see that's already been covered. If you're not too attached to your 2GNT, you might consider selling it and combining funds to pick up an AWD car. The risks associated with that would be, first and foremost, using your entire budget to pick up the new car, which leaves you with a host of maintenance work to do and no funds to do so. There is also the issue of crankwalk. I *know* it's not a major concern, but I wouldn't bother building a 7-bolt. It's too risky. The less expensive the AWD car is, the more work it's going to need. Really clean ones are still selling for upwards of $7k and I highly doubt your 2GNT with a cracked piston is going to bring in much more than $1500, so you're looking at buying a $6000 GSX. Risky business for someone who's blown his maintenance budget.

A FWD car is going to be more affordable, and they are certainly nice cars (perhaps the best balance between power and MPGs right now), but the only difference between a 400hp GST and a 400hp 2GNT is how much it costs to get to 400hp. In the end, you still have a peg-legged FWD car. IMO, the only reason to get a 4G63 DSM is to get the AWD platform.

Of course, if you're down for a 1G, the whole game changes. The only thing you give up against a 2G is the style points. Yes, they tend to have more miles on them, but they are cheaper and your money will go farther initially. It's all about the maintenance up front.

Keep in mind, however, that you can certainly rebuild your 2GNT and put a turbo system on it for $4500. HRC makes damn fine kits, but with a jacked-up engine, you don't need to be spending $3500 on a turbosystem. You should put $2500 into the engine and $2000 into a decent DIY turbosystem. Do your homework and you'll see it's possible.
