Hey guys,

This just happened, I just dropped my girlfriend off at her work and she stopped me when I was leaving to let me know that I left a puddle just from sitting there for not even a minute! So I looked and it was a decent sized puddle so I know that something went. I looked in the drivers-side wheel well and found what I think to be the culprit. I took a pic and wanted to see if you guys could see exactly what it is and if theres any way of fixing it without haveing to replace a part, but im guessing it looks to be the water pump. Thanks!

looks like water pump but i would check the main water pipe where it goes into the water pump, there's a rubber o-ring that could have failed. also check the coolant lines around the oil filter housing. lastly, sometimes shops over tighten the oil filter, crushing the fins around the oil cooler causing coolant to leak.

It could still be coming from somewhere else, like the overflow. It might be hard to tell if it isn't constantly leaking.

The overflow is on the other side of the engine bay so that wouldn't fit very well. I had the same problem not too long ago and it was my water pump. Seeing as the coolant looks like its coming from directly under the waterpump pulley my guess is that the water pump/gasket took a crap.

After looking at it further I think I can see the coolant well above the oil filter housing indicating it's not the coolant lines and it is indeed the water pump. But all we have is a picture, being able to actually see it would be better.

Thanks guys for checking it out! It is in fact a steady leak now and its pouring like a faucet that is almost closed but not quite. I tried watching it on idle and its dripping from tht part I took the pic of but I did notice then that its running down coolant lines as well. Thanks for all of your guys input! Is it hard or expensive to swith out a water pump myself?

depends on your mechanical abilities. Changeing the water pump requires to to take timming belt of... in which case you might as well do ALL the timing compnents while your at it... Just remember, our engines are interferance engines... GET MITSU PARTS!

It really isn't that hard at all. Just get a service manual and listen to it. The timing belts on these cars are probably the easiest I have done out of all the vehicles I have worked on.

oh wow, I didnt think the timing belt needed to come off. Im nomaster mechanic, but I say Im fairly good on working at my cars, I just need direction and help on what to accomplish the first time I attempt something like this.

Oh yeh, I was looking online to find replacement water pumps to get some prices and none of these water pumps im finding look anything like the part I took a pic of... I wish I knew exactly what Im looking at, but if you want I could get more pics or at least a better one to hopefully show more of it?
