ok, i have been searching and searching for which type of m/t fluid is best in my 95' gs, m/t. i know for a fact that the OEM fluid will work because i have read in my repair manual to only use texaco mtx fluid fm, but i also know it is very pricey. I have read many other posts where people have stated that the OEM fluid is best for the 420a. Then again i have read many use Penzoil Synchromesh and some other types as well. Which fluid is going to be the safest in my 170k mile n/a eclipse without breaking the bank. Just trying to find an alternative to the expensive dealer fluid. Thanks a bunch.

how much fluid does the M/T for the 420a hold

2 quarts.

midniteblack when I bought my car they were having tranny problems and I found out they were using some 90w gear oil. I put factory oil in and now I have no probs. Amsoil sells a compatable oil for around $8 a quart or so. Ihave never used though. You need an oil for the nv-t350 trans. Neons use the same too.

Thanks for the reply^ I'm just gunna go with the factory oil since i have heard so many contradictions about people using all of these different types of oils.

Well i changed it today with oem fluid. I figured out that i had only about 3/4 of a quart in the tranny before i changed it.
Since i didn't have enough stands to put on each corner of my car i just lifted the front and wasn't able to get all of the 2 quarts in, almost all of it though. You guys think i'll be fine? Obviously it's way more than what was previously in there. I realized i should have just lifted the left side of the car once i was finished.

When I changed mine I couldn't get the full 2 qts either. Was there any metal chips or flakes in your used trans fluid? It's possible to overheat your trans if you don't have enough fluid. Just run your car and see how it goes.

actually the fluid was quite clean, there just wasn't much of it at all.

I wouldn't use anything but the mopar fluid.
yeah, that's what i used.
