I have read though around 4-6 threads about HKS cams and haven't really gotten' my answer. So here is my question:

Do HKS cam (272/272), require any modification to the head (such as aftermarket springs, retainers, valves etc.)?

Thanks!

Do it right and do it once. Upgrade your springs and retainers, your oem valves can stay.

Thanks guys! This helps just put a friggen' answer to my question, rather than searching with none.

If anything, I will be getting springs, retainers and MAP valves. Then port it myself.

If you don't plan on revving your engine out past 7500 your stock spring will be fine.
On stock rod bolts you shouldn't go above 8k either so don't go crazy.

I don't but I am looking at MAPer's Evo beehive valvesprings. I figured upgrade while I'm in there.

I don't plan on revving past 7k, let alone 8k. So my bolts SHOULD be perfectly fine.

I have these cams on stock valvetrain and everything is peachy. Just don't up the RPM limit and you'll be good. On the other hand, if you want another 1k of RPM (need another turbo to make it worthwhile) then do the upgraded valvetrain.

I'm not pushing more than 7500. My 16g turbo stops making power at 7k but the cams keep the power going so I'm good with what I got.

Take it how you want it. I didn't build it as I would have just upgraded while I had it apart but it's your build. You decide.
