i was just wondering if anyones actually replaced the SRS ECU, my srs light was on after a power surge in my car accured, the main ECU and alternator had to be replaced and some type of power distributor to 2 of the cylinders, anyways the car works besides the fact the the srs light is on, the CEL is on too but im trying to fix the srs light first, i had it diagnosed at the stealership and they said it'd be around $677 for parts and labor, so i was just wondering if anyones done this so i can get a used one from the junkyard or someone else and do the work myself so i dont have to pay that amount....or is it better for them to work on it just incase i set off the airbags and have to pay a zillion more money to get it fixed????

I've never replaced one..........however, as long as the battery is disconnected BEFORE you start working on it, you won't have a problem as long as you complete the work before you re-connect the battery.

The SRS ECU is under the center console, underneath the larger compartment toward the rear.

I have one from my AWD Talon for sale since I don't like airbags. PM me or check my ads. (We aren't allowed to talk about selling stuff on the threads).

hey DGajre thanx for the offer, but i just fixed the problem by snatching one from the junkyard but i appreciate you and FORMONTOYAs help, and just for the record it doesnt matter what year or model the SRS ECU is as long as the numbers match itll work, and NO you dont have to reset the SRS ECU the light will automatically shut off if the srs ecu is good, i got this info from a stealership Mechanic, if the mods or anybody else wants, i can write up an article on how to do what i just did even though its quite simple, but its a good way to save yourself a what would have been a $700 fix by the stealership, good luck selling your srs ecu there DGajre...

Hell yea........write it!

Well written Tech articles are always appreciated, especially if it can save a few hundred dollars. If you have pictures taken along the way it would also help get the point across, tool list, etc.
