I really need this in the transmission tech forums but my account is still limited, so here it goes.

I need an auto transmission for 98 eclipse spyder gs.
I've done some research because the only junkyard trans listed as coming from an eclipse is 500 and 4 hour drive. I have found one from a 95 galant which in my research is also supposed to be the same f4a23-2 trans. Assuming it is the f4a23-2 like that which is in my car and needing replaced, will any modifications need to be done or will it mate right up to the engine and the electronics? Any info appreciated,
Thanks

If its the same model number I would think it'd be fine.

Whats the trans doing? My friends started acting all screwy, we tried changing the fluid a few times and range sensor which didnt help, next was try valve body but ended up just doing huge upgrades and going manual.

During the interior strip down we found the transmission computer located directly under the heater core (under dash in middle behind engine ecu behind stereo) was completely covered in sticky green slime, so you might want to check that too LOL.

Or a local trans shop can rebuild it for $800-$1400 then it would be new. I dont trust used autos.

I installed a shift kit and now I have no reverse or shifting of gears. It was fine before the shift kit and everything was done correct. I haven't checked solenoids yet. I've read reverse is controlled by the manual valve but does a solenoid still engage as well? My separator plates are worn bad from the checkballs. I also put in new end clutches but thst was.a waste of time because the splines on the overdrive clutch hub were completely gone. I'm afraid that something else is ruined now and that a used trans would be a better bet than tearing my trans apart.

Hmm got pictures ? I just dropped my auto trans an hour ago due to loosing 1st and forth

I did speed sensors , end clutch and when I removed my valve body found I broke a band (kickdown )

Possible bad tourque converter ?

Correct me if I'm wrong there is no solenoids engaged for reverse you can take the tcu out and still have reverse regardless .
so you have internal issues im getting my trans rebuilt for 400$ you might want to start deciding weather you want a new one rebuild the existing trans or a used one that might take a crap on ya anytime

No I don't have any pictures of inside the trans at the moment. I've read somewhere else that the second solenoid is on with reverse but I really don't know or remember. I just don't understand how doing the shift kit coukd cause me to lose reverse and all shifting when it was fine before unless it is a solenoid now. Just because everything ran perfect before the shift kit and yes it is the correct kit. Stl 175 translab kit says f4a23 right in the box

You didn't accidentally reverse any wires did you? check the grounds? (I'm spitballing) but sometimes it is the most simple thing that can cause the largest headaches.... You did connect the shifter cable didn't you? (Again.. simple things that may miss)

I'm ordering new plates since both of mine were nearly shot thru by check balls. I'll drill the holes.accordong to the shift kit again in just won't be able to plug the one to redrill smaller than factory size. I'm also releasing the solenoids since I figure my problems lie solely in the solenoids based on the fact tht I have have 1st gear. And shift solenoid b is active during reverse. Given that my trans won't shift now and has no reverse leads me to be almost.positive that.my shit job of cleaning my solenoids had cost me alot of time and stress. I'm also getting some electrical cleaner and spraying out the solenoids connector and pigtail. If this doesn't work I'm just gonna sell the car as.needing a trans or part it out.
