1G Replacing rear caliper piston seal?

Is it possible to replace just the rear caliper piston seal without doing anything else?

I tried removing the seal off of an old rear caliper that I had as a test and it looks like it would be a pain to put back in. The old seal (which didn't even seem to be in bad shape) tore when I took it off which is not encouraging.
