I am asking this for a friend, he has some endplay on the main bearing of his 95 GST. Crankwalk. He wants a temporary fix so he could have enogh time to find a 6bolt and forged internals for it.
He send me to ask you guys if he can remove the oil pan and the main caps and just replace the lower main bearing. obioulsy leaving the upper one there.
Could this be a temporary fix? We are just triyng to buy some time, dont want to rebuilt the engine twice

Slipping the top half in isn't that much harder, just takes patience and an old rod bearing bent flatter or something soft that can rotate the top bearing out. But it should work for a while. Also by unplugging the clutch start wire will help buy some time to.

If you are just trying to prolong crankwalk issues, just replace the upper and lower thrust bearings(middle main bearing) and leave the rest alone. No need to disturb what is in good shape, right? Regardless, this may or may not help the problem. if the crank itself is worn, the bearings will only make minimal difference.

Now, dont lie about it again. Is this for you or your friend? Since you stated both in 2 different posts, I am guessing that it is for your car but you just didnt admit it originally. If you have the issue, tell us. If your friend has the issue, tell him to register here and ask the question himself

this is for a friend. I already have a 6 bolt block in my closet waiting for parts. My firend dosn't speak english, i dont think he even knows how to use a computer.
I know i stated like it was my problem but english is my second lenguage and is not easy to find words to describe it better.

If it was my problem i just remove the whole engine not taking the chance of bad instalation and have a spun bearing.
But he dosnt wanted to do like it should and he wanted me to ask you if it was possible to change bearing with the engine on.
