Replacing lost key (all keys lost) for dsm.. [Merged 3-8]

HELP! I lost ALL the keys to my Talon, WHAT CAN I DO NOW? I am illegal parked, at a festival. Finding out the Tower, is gonna be a nightmare, I am in germany, can't speak a lick of german and there is no indication of whose property I am parked on. How can I get another set of keys.

I tore up the ignition trying to hotwire it. I couldn't find the Power wire to save my life. then I tried to touch every wire to each other, one at a time, damn car wouldn't turn. So that didn't work either.

You have to give the ignition wire(s) constant 12v and tap the starter wire to crank to car, when it catches you are good to go... except for the steering lock.

It would be easier to use a dent puller (read: slide hammer) to dislodge the ignition switch and use a screwdriver to rotate the keyswitch left exposed after the keyed portion is removed. This will allow you to start the car and disengage the the steering lock at the same time.

If you are wondering how I know, it's because I used to be a car stereo/ alarm installer and I have seen the aftermath of many stolen cars. Not to mention the training from the alarm manufacturers in how to defeat theives by knowing what they do and how they do it.

Turbo Guru, any thoughts on how to get my some keys for it?

Call the delership (any one) and give them your vin#, they should be able to lookup the key code for your vehicle and a locksmith should be able make replacements. If they can't, have a local locksmith re-key everything (if possible.)

Do I need to call A Chrysler or Jeep. And do I need to call an state side one or will the german dealerships have the same info.

-Mitsu dealer has a key notching machine, they can cut the key as long as you get the VIN and some sort of proof that's your car.

do you think that the german mitsubishi dealership can do that for an Eagle vehicle.

The local Mitsubishi should be able to do it for you. As all the worldwide dealers are connected, the Information should be available.

And they probably speak English at the dealer.

hey sh!t happens i guess, , i just lost both sets of keys for my eclipse also, but all i did was took the passenger side door lock out, and took it to a locksmith, he did a lookup on the computer and had me 2 keys ready for it in 20 minutes for 25 bux. in order to get the handle off, u will need to remove the passenger side interior door panel, once thats off, u pul away all that plastic crap. theres 2 bolts that hold the handle in place, remove them. once theyre out, there is a rod for the door lock and a rod for the door opener. fiddle with it until it comes off but be careful not to break it. also i would suggest opening the trunk before u play with the door handle because once u are jiggling the handle around, its very easy to not knowingly lock the door, then once you close it, you are stuck outside your car with no keys.

Chrysler here in Germany will not touch this car, they refuse to. They tell you to take it to a Mitsubishi Dealership. Of course, there are NONE in the entire Stuttgart area.

They do, at any dealership, Honda, Chrysler, ect.

Most German children know English, see if you can find a "translator" to help you if needed (ie-talking to a dealership or locksmith to get a key copy)

Hey buddy I would go to either mitsubishi or your nearest chrysler/ eagle dealer. Give them the VIN number and see if they can make a key thats what I would do and have done previously with a toyota. Good luck.

well thers many ways of dealing with this...i would take a long screwdriver , wedge it in the ignition cylinder and turn it...or u can just pull the wires off the ignition cylinder, ghetto rig it and put a switch on there or get a remote starter taht u dont need the key to.... or just go to the dealer and get a spare key made

all you have to do is go to a locksmith and bring him the lock cylinder from the passenger side door it has #'s on it and he can look it up in a book and make it from scratch this wont work if its a different column or a different door also have him wear the key down just a little to save yourself another trip to compensate for normal wear I did this with a eclipse I bought at an auction with no keys

Keep your fingers crossed. Of the 12+ DSM's I've owned, I had 2 just recently that were "old" enough that I couldn't get the key codes off the vin anymore. This was at the dealer. Both were 90's cars with early build dates. I think the Mitz online system only keeps X amount of years of infomation on VIN's. I'd expect that each year, more and more are going to be "lost". So run quick. I've got 9 different key codes for 90 models. If they don't have it, take a pic and send it to me and I'll see if I can match it to one of mine.
