So you lost your keys? Well all that you need to do is call up a Chrysler dealership. Tell them the year, make, model and your VIN (Vehicle ID Number). They may tell you it has to be programmed. Which they can find out through your VIN. If so its going to cost more. How much? I do not know.

My 1991 non-turbo/non-flip headlights/non-AWD Eagle Talon did not need to be programmed and it cost me $25.00 before taxes. That was for one copy and that was a for everything. To open doors and start the car. Also you will need to bring your registration in with you when you pick up the keys.

I hope this helps...

I went to a dealership when I bought the car from an insurance auction in 2008. I gave the guy my VIN, he looked up the code, cut a key and charged me $0.

Unfortunately, I have separate door and cylinder keys because somebody swapped ignition cylinders. Tried to have it duplicated, didn't work. Will try again sometime...

I am on a similar trip right now. Someone removed the door locks from my car before I bought it so I wanted to get the matching locks. I called the local Chrysler garage and they said 56 dollars for the drivers side door lock and the passenger side was discontinued. ....... :banghead::ohdamn:Thats a lot of money to spend on a lock cylinder that might fit my already copied key that if you had a shadow of would look similar to a wiener and sack. Any ideas? Maybe I could call the Mitsu dealer an see what they say? I know its kind of picky to want one key to fit everything but I like something to work as they did from the factory.:hellyeah:

Cutting a key is not that difficult, especially for a door/hatch lock where the lock cylinder can be taken out easily. Anyone with a manual key cutter (not the key duplicator) should be able to do that. Or if you have a dremel and some patience (along with a blank key) it could be done too.

Will do a how-to in next few days if needed.

You should probably re read what he said guy. And also, by my math 15+8 is 23...So 25 is far from "high as a kite"

Edit for you.

Hahaha thanks man!

Tried this last week, my local dealer said their records didn't go back that far.

Oh dang!!! What year is the car you are trying to get a key made for? You might have to get a whole new ignition but thats just a guess..

I called my dealership here in so cal. I straight up told them i want one copy that opens doors and starts my car. He said ok whats your VIN. Gave it to him and he told me it would cost 25.00 before taxes. So $26.something is going to be my total.

Check with the local junkyard if you are just looking to get new key door cyclinders.

I didn't know that they hand out keys with just a vin. That info is kind of nerve wrecking, in the sense that I am assuming they are not asking for proof of registration. It is helpful when I need an oem replacement key.

I feel the same way, i had to get a key made once and no one asked for id or proof of ownership , and it was some private key place who cut it, dealership was no longer cutting keys, and i was charged 25 to cut, plus 8 from dealer

Great. Now go to a Wal-Mart near you or something similar and cut like 4 extra copies: They're about $1.50 for each key (no transponder). This is a lot cheaper than the dealership runaround...Keep one in the wallet and hide one somewhere on the car with a magnet :ninja:

Also, some dealerships are completely incompetent when it comes to older dsm's (no dsm love). A mobile locksmith may often be cheaper than the dealer option. Or if you have a buddy who repo's, gas and a $20 bill = one fresh key :D

If you have mismatched door locks on a 1g: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-exterior-interior/433641-how-rekey-1g-door-lock.html

Its a 95, and the local dealer is new so I might just have to find one that's been around a little longer. They really didn't seem to know what they were doing, either. :toobad:

Yeah they should have been able to find your car! You deffinatly have a point though.

Should report them to the Better Business Bureau. Thats sketch.

All dealerships should ask for proof of reg. If they dont I wouldnt go back.
