I looked through the articles and couldn't find any reference on exactly how to replace a head gasket or how difficult it is. I need to know what I am getting myself into so I can determine if spending money for someone else to do it makes more sense.

I have a 92 Eclipse GSX. White smelly smoke for about 10 minutes at startup. Radiator fluid boils over. From what I read through the posts the head gasket is the problem.

So I was thinking... what a great weekend project. $150 for a gasket set and I can fix my little problem.

How little is my problem? How much work does it take to replace the head gasket... any good links out there? Google didn't turn up much. If no good links... how about suggestions on manuals?

Thanks guys... much appreciated.

It's looking more and more like I might be having to do the same thing, on my 2g gst spyder.

I have people that can help me if need be, and moreso, I'm curious whether or not it's worth getting the kit, and replacing all the other shit, since I priced what it would cost me locally (roughly) via autozone (even though that's not where I would probably go, just the only local place w/ prices online) and it was like $40-60 for the gasket, $115 for the set, which seemed to just have other random rubber parts for the motor....how necessary is this? I understand it might be worth doing, and I'm probably going to run over the entire motor and replace a lot of the little shit in a couple of months, but for the time being, the less money I can get away w/ spending, the better.

You might want to look around a bit more, too, btw, if $150 was the best price you found, since like I said, fking autozone had one for $115.

I have a 2g, and I'm not all that familiar w/ 1g motors, but on the 2g, it's looking like it will be pretty ridiculously easy, 6 bolts to get the valve cover off, and it can't be many past that.

Side note: Does anyone have a recommendation for a good jack for a lowered 2g eclipse? I think I'm at about 4" off the ground, and my buddy's jack wouldn't fit under the car earlier, and I don't want that to be an issue in the future.

Good luck liquid, and I'll drop you a pm if I get any info that I think you might find helpful ;)
