Even with the thread research we've done, because there are so many combinations of DSMs, engines, years, transmissions, turbos, etc., information on electrical systems is scant and often confusing.
We just picked up a second DSM, a '99 Eclipse Spyder GS, 2.4L N/T with a 4G64. We are having trouble with the charging system and are confident in the alternator, battery and wiring.
Some of the research tells us that on this N/T model, the charge/no-charge signal is controlled by the ecu, which can sometimes go bad.
I've contacted all the usual rebuilders of ecus (including ones on this site), only to be told they don't repair the N/T model ecus.
Because of the age of the car, these ecus are much more scarce than you would believe.
Here's the question: can we use another model ecu, say a turbo model, and make an alternator change to handle the charging function?
