Hi, I have a 1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse N/T manual 5 speed, and it was having the clicking noise assocciated with dying while running problem, and idling wacky. So I replaced the caps, and, the problem persists. What now??? Is there something besides the ECU I need to replace? Thanks :)

Ok, what i did is while my dad started the car, i had one hand on the ecu hooked up and one hand on the little gold colored "box" thing that is held on to the frame down there by a bolt. It was NOT the ecu that was clicking, it was the goldish colered box. I felt it clicking rapidly. Also, when we started it at first, it ran fine. then i told my dad to turn the a/c on by pushing in the ac button twice, THEN it started clicking rapidly and then died.

what is that gold colored box? where can i buy a new one? (if that has to do with the problem.)

please reply, thanks

Well I just replaced the battery in late 05. This car was sitting 2 years prior to me obtaining it. ALSO another thing i noticed is that if it starts right, if you just let it sit and run it runs fine for like a minuite, then idles way down at 200rpm. Also, when you push the gas peddle, in neutral, even though you know your car is at around 5000 rpms, it registeres on the tach as like around 1000, then jumps up to 3000 or so quickly then goes down when you let off on the gas, then when you push on it again it does the same thing. The tach needle just keeps jumping around. I would hope if that i replaced the ecu the problem would be solved. If it persists I dont know what is going on. Also, the car DOES have a diff. engine than the original, same type, only a diff. one. Also the alternator on this diff. engine has also been replaced with a new or remanufactured one/

Please offer your insight because this is my first car and I really like it and would like to drive it to school, but if it continues to have problems I will have to drive the old 86' ford ranger, and thats no fun.
