Replaced Alternator, now have severe static on Radio

1991 Eagle Talon 2T TSI AWD.

I replaced my failed alternator with a remanufactured one from Champion (90amps), plus new rib belt. The install went without a hitch!

Alternator is taking full load with no squealing.

Now I have loud static and whining on all radio channels. This was not a problem before the change.

Can anyone offer help or guidance?

Is it just on the radio? Or does the hissing come through during audio playback in CD mode?

Also check/replace the noise condensor (noise filter capacitor).

Where is the noise condenser located?

Noise condensor is on the firewall next to the battery. Next to the fuel pump check connector and defogger relay. Also make sure all your grounds are in place & tight from engine to body to battery negative. Also from radio case to body.

Of course you may just have a bum or poor quality alternator which is more likely the case. There are hundreds of posts on here about the poor quality alts autostores sell and how half of them don't even work when they're brand new. The only good quality alts I've seen are ones you get at an alt/starter repair shop (they sell new ones there also).

luv2rallye, l agree with your comments re: bad alts!

I removed the one I had just installed and replaced it under warranty (Canadian Tire). I read somewhere that if there is static and whine in radio, then it is a faultly diode in the alt. They replaced it, no questions!

I grounded this one well, and checked other grounds.

I still have whine and squeal on AM/FM, but CD is clear.

Still have to check condenser and other ground points.
