replace motor mounts at same time as CV axle?

I need to replace the driver's CV axle on our Talon - and when I called around for prices, it was highly suggested that I replace the motor mounts at the same time (they said engine alignment is critical was the reason). Does that sound like a crock or really is it that critical? Our Talon has 150K miles on it, so I'm sure it wouldn't be a BAD idea, it's just funds are TIGHT right now and it was $100 a side for the motor mounts and $60 a side for the axles.......

thanks, hopefully that will be the case - the axles are ''limited lifetime'', but hopefully that won't be a problem with lowering their life expectancy if we don't change the motor mounts....

On a side note on this MM topic: How many DSM's have you seen where that "front roll stop" - commonly known as the front motor mount that sits on the crossmember where it seems the motor has suddenly got side heavy and the innards of that mount have been munched down almost to the inside of the mount.

The rear and tranny mount is okey and front mount loves to split.

Thus, you put the block of wood under the oil pan and begin to raise the motor to get the weight off that front mount, but nothing happens-the side of the motor aint lifting to relieve that front mount .. would then that crossmember be bent upwards?

could bad motor mounts be the cause of the demise of an axle? Maybe that is part of the 70mph vibration?

Absolutely...most likely causing wheel hop problems leading up to the failure of an axle.

The 70mph vibrations most likely were the bad CV joint. But for the cost of a set of Prothane inserts, its good security and will help a bit with handling and wheel hop. Get ahold of me if youre interested. :hellyeah:

I seem to have this same issue. My mount is COMPLETELY GONE. when I say gone, i mean there's nothing there and the crossmember seems to be bent up so it's only slightly away from touching. I get the clicking noise when I let off of the gas. I'll get some pictures of this when I get it back up on the lift. Perhaps I'll have a solution when I post the pics as well.
