Hey i just got my first dsm, a 2g awd. I was going through cleaning things and was going to clean the side mount intercoller and was reading my haynes manual on how to remove the front bumper. i came across a part where it said to be careful to not hit the pressure sensors and set off the airbags.....if i just remove the bumper with some of the guides in the tech section, will i even come close to hitting these sensors?? thanks

you would have to hit that sensor pretty hard to to make it go off or it would go off every thime you knicked it. good luck

Maybe reading those books would be a good idea i never even thought bout that and i am always taking my bumper off oops OMG

,dont worry to much about the sensor, but you dont need to remove the whole bumper just to clean the side mount, just remove the wheel and fender lining, much easier and faster, but taking the bumper off wouldnt hurt because its something every DSM'er should get used too,LOL, good luck with everything and welcome to the forum

must be diffrent for the 95 bumper then because i tried and tried (being too lazy to remove the bumper) and i could not get at that last bolt

What are yall talking about... ROFL I didn't have to unbolt ANYTHING related to the bumper to get the SMIC out. You've just gotta get creative with your hand/tool positioning, and have the right tools. I didn't even take the wheel off, just turned it enough to get my hands back there...

If you're really afraid of setting off the airbag, disconnect the negative on the battery and let it set 15 min. That lets the airbag system drain power so it won't get triggered. Its what I had to do when I pulled the airbag to replace the dash in my little brother's car.

Taking the bumper off for the first time may be a pain, since it's got those stupid plastic holding screw things.... don't know how to describe them. Anyways, the first time for me took about 45 minutes to take it off, now it's a simple 5 bolt process. :)
Good luck.
