Removing hatch and gas lever?

Wondering if anyone knows how to release the cables from the levers. Mine had all of the plastic broke off and I got some used ones from a friend and want to switch them but can't get the cables off.

There is a slit in the circle area where the cable goes in. You pull the cable a certain amount and you can slid the cable out when you line up the slit and the cable. It's similar to your throttle body cable. You'll figure it out once your messing with it. Super easy once you realize how it's done.

^^ They are really simple just as posted. I had to pull them off a junkyard car, because mine were not working.
