I recently began the process of removing the fuel filter. I cant seem to get this top nut off. Its not where the wrench is(that's just there, so I can stead my other wrench), its the top nut. Any suggestions, I tried WD40 and some other lubricants. Also can I take off hose 1(I don't know where it leads to that's why I'm asking you) without it spraying gas on me or destroying my car? The removal of that hose would make things so much easier.

Also I have seen people start from the bottom up. Do you suggest that?

Thanks,
Ian

ya i'll try tightening it and then loosening it. i hope it works. so far the brackets pop off easily but the top is SNUG and the bottom seems rusted or something.

i'm telling ya, just drop the tranny and replace filter LOL, so much easier and you would of been done by now :D

all u need is some leverage to get that bolt loose. u can use 2 open ended wrenches, ratchet with pipe, or even a breaker bar. autozone has a free tool rental program. u pay the price, get your money back when return the tool.

Use a bigger wrench? Try the biggest (1/2" drive w/reducer, maybe) wratchet you have, and put the back-up wrench on the filter housing, just like it is in your first photo. Maybe an extension on the wratchet would help? Not too long though, then you can't hold the back-up wrench. The right extension might allow you to get the 2-foot breaker-bar on that sucker!

I got the top bolt off with no problem just grabbed the filter an turned the top bolt with my 3/4 docket an it came loose but i'm having problems trying to get this bottom bolt off. Would it be easy to just use vice grips on the bolt an then twist it by hand?

on the bottomn there is a "flare" nut. You need to get 2 wrenches on the bottom.

One on the flare nut and one on the filter(on the bottom).

This is called using a "back up" wrench.

Try to get the wrenches close to each other so that you can just pull them together and loosen the flare nut.

Make sure they're on solid. Don't slip them.

I did mine a while ago but I think all that was used was a ton of PB blaster and a lot of tries. I'd give it a try for about 5 minutes then soak it in PB and come back in a half hour n try again... only took about 3 tries.
