Remanufactured manual racks available?

So I've been searching for manual racks lately for a build I'm doing, and stumbled upon the infamous unicorn rack at carsteering.com, anyone ever heard of this place before?

It almost sounds to good to be true, 1994#Mitsubishi#Eclipse#Manual Steering Rack from Car Steering Wholesale

400 bucks is a little steep, but still its worth a shot I guess. I just got done de-powering my power rack too, and I found this place so I guess I will have two options for me.

What do you guys think?

There is new racks available but they dont come with the brackets which differ from a power rack

I've read an easy mod is using some 1.5" gas line cut in half as a shim between the rack and a power steering bushing and bracket. If I can get a manual rack you best believe I'll make it fit. Its a smaller diameter than the power steering rack so it shouldn't be too tough to shim the difference.

Why not just use your depowered rack and use the 400 else where.

I'm not sure I'm going to like the de-powered power rack, I would like to have both options. I've ran with the lines looped previously and it was a pain in the ass sometimes, I'm not sure how much better the de-powered version will be. And to be honest, I'm not sure I'm going to like the manual rack either, I might not like the "loose" steering feel. I've been searching for a manual rack for a while, and gave up and just depowered my power rack. Seems like everytime I find one I just miss getting it before someone else, or I find one like this that is rusted to all hell and the guy still wants 250$. So might as well take advantage of it while I can get one, I can always resell it later after I figure out what I want.

I had a manual rack on my 92 and I honestly preferred the feeling of a looped rack compared to the manual. I guess it just comes down to how you prefer it to feel.

So it was too good to be true, I received an email telling me they had a problem with my order. I called and they don't have it, nor can they get it. I knew it was to good to be true, oh well. Hopefully they fix their site so no one gets their hopes up in the future like I did.

Thanks. I'd appreciate some pictures of the process. Mine is currently looped (was like that when I bought it) but I'm going to have to drop the rack to replace the boots anyway (can't get the tie rod ends off) so it would be nice to depower it at the same time.

I went through this a few months ago, I ordered from 3 places and got discontinued. I called every site that had them listed on their site and none have them in. Junkyards online want 350-400 for one off a junk car.
Rareparts is usually the best of the best for hard to find steering, even they had no cores for the dsm.

I almost bought a custom manual rack online where you send them the specs and they build it but I was able to find a manual rack at my local junkyard for 60$!
What a steal!!

It's probably a lost cause finding one remanufactured, I noticed RockAuto had one listed as in stock, Atsco part number 6846, I ordered it, I'm waiting for the email saying they don't have it and my order to be cancelled, *crossing my fingers*.

Rock Auto is confirming shipment of Atsco part number 6846, hopefully when I get it it isn't a power rack, I'm not going to be happy. Atsco's website confirms that re-manufactured manual rack's part number.

Probably going to be a while till I can take some pictures of the process, the heat in my garage is not all that good and the temperature here in Cleveland isn't going over 20°F for a while. In the mean time here's a picture of a completely disassembled rack.

Received my manual rack this morning. It looks pretty good, not the best reman job, but I'm not going to complain. To anyone looking for a manual rack, keep an eye out on Rock Auto. I haven't measured the rack yet to make sure it's the right one, but it looks right.

It was 250 bucks including the core charge. Not cheap, but compared to what they are going for from people selling them off junk yard cars it's not bad.
