So ive been told by somebody that a re-turned, re-polished, Re-manned, machined or milled 7-bolt crank shaft will explode?!

Is that true and how many of you have had a remaned crank and it didnt Explode? LOL

Don't use a reman crank. The process they use it to weld materal onto the journals then grind them back down to standard size. They also use the worst cores possible. I have seen a broken crank welded together and "remmaned". It is getting harder to find a good used 7-bolt crank, most of them have wear on the thrust surface.

I'm not sure who told you that a re-manufactured crank will explode, but they are mistaken, unless of course, the balance is way off and you rev the motor to the moon or do something really really stupid with it.

as said above, becarefull of parts store cranks, they do ger welded and turned back down. they can have cracks that have been welded over, it would be ok in a stock rebuild/repair with stock boost

if you need one, i would check the for sale fourm here or call your local machine shops.

even if you find one at a local shop, look at it close, and ask if it was welded. but do not be scared of one thats been ground .010 or .020 undersized, it may be turnd down beacuse of wear, or rust.
Stay away from any that look beat up on the counter weights, or if you see pitting from welds on the bearing surfaces.

also they do make over sized thurst bearings for cranks, as far as the 7 bolt goes, I do not know if a OS thurst bearing is avaiable.

Yeah the guy thats building the motor for me said it was just off of a motor that had 120,000 miles and he was going to replace rod bearings and mains so he wanted to see if needed a turn or needed jsut a polish. So, i think i trust the guy i mean, 6 month warranty, he lives 15 miles away and is the owner of Porters Performance so he may have not even turned the crank. Its not necessarily remanned, its jsut turned about .010 over ######..ill ask though, but if its just turned thats not bad right?

I had my crank turned for my rebuild. .020 on main journals and .010 on the rod journals. It's been great so far. I should have had the whole rotating assembly balanced though. LOL

awesome!! he said that hes gonna balance it with the HB, crank, rods, Pistons, and flywheel

Thanks i appreciate it!
