would you trust a highly modified talon on an 1800 mile road trip? or am i asking for trouble?

As long as it's been running reliably, why not? I'm driving to CO from NY (again) and it's almost 2000 miles. I don't see a problem with it.

edit: knock on wood!

I commute daily in mine, 50+ miles each way. But for such a long road trip I wouldn't want to chance. You might make it w/o problems, but too many things could go wrong. If you can afford it, just get a cheap rental and beat the living piss out of it :thumb:

if i had the option of taking something else i would, but i am pickign my car up in colorado this saturday...so i dont really have a choice, im going to pit stop in lexington for the night but that is still roughly 18 hours of driving...guess i will just cross my fingers and hope i dont have any problems

Just make sure you check all fluid levels, and check over the entire car, Ill be doing a 1200 mile jaunt this summer when i go to wyoming for Wyotech. Ill admit , i dont know if im going to make it there :|

You will be Ok, just do an oil change before you leave and check fluids and you'll be Just Fine.

Where at in CO? I could use a hand driving down I-80. :p

It never hurts to carry tools, fluids, towels or whatever in your trunk because you just never know what might happen...If you dont beat on it a lot while driving and just cruise I see it making there just fine. Good Luck :thumb:

what is really said is this question.. can i trust my dsm to reliably drive 1800 miles with few stops..

any car on the market should be able to do that no problem.. but then a dsm.. a majority of the responses are people saying No. i wouldnt trust it.. soo sad

I carry a full set of sockets, metric wrenches, screw drivers, paper towels, an extra quart of oil, brake fluid, brake cleaner, clamps, and hand cleaner. Last thing I want is for it to break down somewhere. So far it's treated me well. *knock on wood*

As long as your car has been modded in a non-ghetto way, and was maintained, you shouldn't have a problem, when I was at the Shootout, there were people with 11 and 12 second cars that drove them there, getting 25 MPG while doing it.

I know this is a bit off track, but i'm planing a road trip for fun, prob. 6,000 miles and i'm concerting a 1g dsm, it has 86k on it(don't know maintenance record), do you think it would hold up?

Sorry for piggybacking on the post, just didn't want to start another reliability thread.

The guy i am buying it from seems to be a pretty straight up guy..he sent pics of the engine and everything and it all looks legit, i kinda get the feeling that this car was his baby....but we shall soon see, i will post any problems i have ( if any ) when i get back

Eh, have Enterprise bring you a car. You can do things with rental cars you'd never realize cars can do. Especially in the winter.

Oh, buy the insurance rider, too :thumb:

???

I am not sure that everyone is understanding what i am saying......im not driving my talon out to colorado....i am flying to colorado to pick up my talon and drive it back here
