Now I know that as you modify a car, it *will* get less reliable over time. However I was wondering about the reliablity of DSMs (specifically the 2Gs) around 120k miles. A lot of my friends tell me that I shouldn't get a car with that many miles because it won't run, or I'll have to rebuilt the engine/transmission. I would most likely side with them, but I would like to get your opinions.

Will a 120k mile car be suitable for modding and yet still be kept reliably as a daily driver?

Thanks and any elaborations are welcomed, Phya

it all depends who the last owner or owners of the car did with it. you gotta factor in did they kick the shit outta the car or take care of it changing the oil every 3,000 or so miles. Transmission problems usually only occur if the car got the shit kicked out of it, or in time wear and tear, or like ford there transmission suck so much they break within the first 500miles of use.
-If you get a rebuilt kit for your engine the thing will run like new, when a car breaks down it is usually caused by the piston, rods, bearings, cams. Once you replace most of those your car should run a easy 100,000 miles. And you can mod away and not have to worry

seriously i hear of stories on eclipse tranmissions always messing up, im a NonTurbo with turbo running on a Non turbo Tranny and I have not had one problem yet with it. Take the car for spin and see what it feels like. :thumb:
I turbo'd at 87,000miles

I bet if u only go as far as like a 16g u might be able keep that engine runnin still. But at 120k its only a matter of time and when u mod it time will get shorter. I would throw the mods u want and just run it till it breaks..You never know some cars last longer than others even with the same mileage.
