Ok I took out my engine in my 2g but taking off the trans first. Now I am installing my new 2.4 back in the 2g. I bought an engine tilter thing which goes on my engine crane/cherry picker so can tilt the engine and trans.I didn't have this tool when took out the motor so it seemed easier to take off trans first.

I want to put engine back in as easily as possible. Should I put trans an engine and then put them both back in? I have most things off the front of my motor can I put back on things like alt, front pulleys and belts or should I put that stuff back with engine in the car?

Ive pulled engines with every thing still attached, in 2 pieces (head and block/tranny) and Ive taken alot of the stuff off of it. I found it easiest to pull the engine and put it in with everything on it but the last time I installed it, I left out a few brackets so I had to take off the intake manifold to allow some clearance on the firewall. So the easiest thing to do IMO would to put the engine in with the head/tranny installed and if you want with the accesories on the font of it (you may have to be carefull of the dampener pulley) Just make sure and take your time and make sure nothing gets caught.

On a 2g i find it easier to put the tranny in first, but unbolt the front mount on the tranny from the tranny, so that you can slide it back giving you enough room to put the motor in, as soon as you get the motor in far enough, slide the tranny up to the motor and bolt them together, and reinstall the front mount. The rest is pretty easy.

i am going to try to hook up my new tilter gizmo on my engine crane, picker.I think it will tilt enough to let me get them both in at once.If not then do it a different way engine or trans first whatever..
I like the idea of bolting the trans together right in front of me on the ground. Can easily line up things and all that...
see how it goes.

that is just kind of hard to do on a 2g being that the side trans mount doesn't unbolt from the frame like a 1g, it makes reunstalling the 2 together kind of a pain in the ass, it can be done like that, but it is easier to install the tranny first.

Is the car on a lift? If so, bolt the trans to the motor, remove the rear roller mount from the trans and put it on a low profile engine dolly. (Wooden square on wheels)

Position the motor/trans under the engine bay and lower the car to the motor. Once you have the car low enough and you have made sure that the motor is clear on all sides, attach a cherry picker and lift the motor into position. use the timing belt side mount and the tranny mount to secure the motor in the bay and go to town re-connecting everything.
