Hey guys im in the process of rebuilding my motor and wanted to know what type of rings i should use? Im doing a completely stock rebuild basically besides removeing my balance shafts. Keep in mind this is my first completely rebuild. Any help would be great!

Also do you think i should rehone my cylinder walls. Heres a pic of what they look like.

Looks mean shit-all. Have your machinist measure the bores and find out if you need not only honing, but boring.
Cylinders virtually always need honing once the pistons come out, at least a run with a berry hone.

Yes you need to hone those cylinders. Especially to get rid of the scratches from the piston skirts. Have a machinist tell you if the cylinder is out of round and the taper. See if he recommends boring. Any time you put new rings in you HAVE to hone the cylinders. If you do not, the rings will never seat and you will blow oil and have low compression. :notgood:

I would definitely recommend taking it to a machine shop and the cylinders measured. I would definitely get it honed out unless you dont want the rings to seat properly. Really depends on how much of a budget you're on. You could hone it yourself. You can try and measure it yourself but you never know with that. I would definitely get rings that are not pre-gapped, especially if you dont get it bored out. Good luck with the build-up!

Thanks guys for the help. At the top of the piston skirt theres no lip wall at all. I didnt even need to use a ridge reamer before romoving the pistons. Im really thinking the taper isnt bad at all if any! I am on a very tight money budget. I was thinking of just rehoneing the walls with the 3 stone type (not sure of the name) and take material out only whats neccessary.

Anyone know were i can buy rings that dont came already pregaped?
