Ok so I figured I'd create a little post about my wheel refinishing in case any one was curious on how to do it. Picked up a set of Motegi Mr7's for about $150 from a junk yard a few months ago. Don't especially like the wheels but theres nothing out there made right now that I like new, so i figured these would do right now. 2 had a slight bend but my guys at the tire shop were able to balance most of it out so i can barely feel it, and put them both on the rear. Project consisted of several steps that I will list, i am amatuer at body work but after repaitning my car I had enough knowledge and sandpaper and supplies to make these turn out good. These were NOT shot with my HVLP gun instead I just did it rattle can style with good sprayers as I didn't want to plastic everything off in order to set my gun up.

Steps:

Sand everything with P180 grit
Fill logs and dents with bondo
Sand with 180
Fill with evercoat glazing putty to smooth out imperfections
Sand with 320
Clean with wax and grease remover
Prime with SEM High build primer 2 coats
Sand with 320
Coat with black acrylic 2 coats
Coat with spraymax 2k clear coat 3 coats
Buff out with 3m Perfect it rubbing compoound
Polish with 3m perfect it machine polish
Wait one month then apply paint sealant

Heres the in progress pics.

How did you like the spraymax 2k clear coat? I've heard good things about it.

Why wait? To make sure everything is really dry and cured?

Yup. Paint doesn't cure in 24 hours. 2k paint needs at least a month to 90 days to cure out, otherwise some of the chemicals are still rising to the surface and if it is sealed or waxed it can start causing bubbling and other problems since it isn't fully cured.

And yes the spray max 2k is great stuff, spendy but it only took 2 $20 cans to do all four wheels with 2 full coats on the inside and 3 coats on the faces. I've used their primers, and clear coat several times and i love the stuff.

Nice work, I like that you filled in the indentation on the one spoke so it was symmetrical.

Thanks for noticing. It looked like hell with that indent and I could care less about advertising the wheel model. My car is all about clean. Thanks for all the good words guys.

I need to refinish my wheels as well, they are a two tone 'polished' lip/ silver paint generic six spoke, similar enough to yours. They turned out amazing man. I'm going to use this knowledge mixed with fixing some decent curb rash to hopefully turn mine out in either gunmetal or a dark bronze.
