what gear oil is reccomended for the AWD Transmission, Transferboxes, And Rear Diff's?? Sythetic or conventional? what weight/Brand etc... Also what is the reccomended Antifreeze? Dexcool orange or the Green stuff? or Asian Pink?

ok for the transmission i would go with synchromesh, which is a product design for the transmission that keeps the synchros coated. for the coolant stay away from dexcool and just put the regular green stuff. the green stuff has to be mixed with water according to the temperature of where you are at, but mainly is 50/50. you can also buy pre mixed, but who wants to pay for water also if the climate you live in is really cold you want a higher mix. for the transfercase i would go with a good gear oil. hope that helps.

I used Mobil 1 durablend 80w-90 for the transfer case and rear diff and synchromesh for the trans. Cheap and readily available. If you're pushing good power though, look into getting better fluids. I'm pushing 275-300 and plan to not go any more. I'm perfectly happy where I am.

If you search the archives you'll find strong recommendations for Red Line MT90 or a mix of MTL and MT90 for the transmission, and either Red Line shockproof or the factory recommended gear oils (75W-85W GL4 in transfer case and 80W-90W GL5 in the rear diff)

I've found the various sychromesh fluids (GM and Penzoil) to be too thin for my liking in the trans.

This has been covered many times if you would have searched.

Here is my recommendations:

I have a shep stage 4, and as for their recommedation for winter months, MT90 on all components, for summer Redline Lightweight Shockproof. Before the upgrades, I experimented with many oils, both Penzoil and GM Synchromesh, Motul, Royal Purple, etc. Redline worked best all around.

Taken straight from Shep's site.

"There are several gear oils that will work depending on horsepower or intended use. For most transmissions we recommend Redline MT90 or Pennzoil Synchromesh. For drag use or high horsepower cars please contact us. Please let us know if you need any Redline gear oil."

I've just recently heard about Brad Penn oils. Can someone fill in the details as to why this is highly recommended? And where to get some?
I've always used Redline products in my drivetrain but recently have tried Syncromesh in the tranny and so far it seems good.

But it's hard to get a good read on a product from a companies own propaganda. Is there comparison data? And it's conventional oil? Not synthetic?

It's partial synthetic has a really high zinc content (your engine loves zinc) and is half the price of mobil1, redline, royal purple, etc.

I use sychromesh in all my manual cars, has even been known to solve/fix many tranny problems (noises, grinding etc..) best tranny oil ive ever used, tho other kinds are good too, i found synchromesh to be the best....for me. Transfer case and rear diff i use royal purple 75-90 (good for LSD's), been using these fluids for years on many cars and have recommended to many others with good return feedback, no issues thus far.

In the transmission and transfer case, I have used Redline MTL, Shockproof, Mobil One 75w90, Lucas Oil Stabilizer (as an additive), some kind of NAPA 75-140 that I had a few bottles of just to try it, different mixes of the aforementioned fluids, etc. In my opinion, Royal Purple 75w90 makes the transmission shift the best with the least amount of noise and quiets the transfer case down a bit. I run it in my 140,000 mile GVR4 Transmission and my mildly built 30,000 mile Jack's transmission. I would not recommend the Shockproof. It is nasty stuff and my transfer case sounded like it was going to explode while it was in there.
