Hey everyone,

My 2G is missing the entire trunk cargo setup (board cover, mat, cargo net, hardware, all of it) and I am rebuilding from scratch. I have already searched the forum and read through the existing threads, so I only want to ask about the parts that are still unanswered.

What I already found, and why it does not fully cover my project:

The Embossed 2G Trunk Floor thread is a nice build, but it does not follow the original board design. It is missing the holes for the cargo net hooks, the board is too thick, and the trunk mat is glued directly to the board. I want to keep mine closer to stock, with the mat separate and the hook holes in the right spots.

The Building a trunk floor thread did not have anything useful for my specific case.

In the 3D Parts Discussion/Requests thread, a member said they might model the cargo net hook/wing nut part, but the file was never actually posted or followed up on.

What I still cannot find and would really appreciate help with:

1. Original trunk board template and specs. Does anyone have measurements or a template that matches the real OEM board, including the correct thickness and the hole positions for the net hooks? I specifically want to keep the mat separate from the board, not glued.

2. Cargo net hooks. Where exactly do the hooks/anchors sit in the cargo area (how many and their positions), and where should I drill on the board so they line up and the cover still sits flat? If anyone has an original net or board, could you measure the distance between the hooks (width and depth, inches or cm)? That would let me buy a correctly sized aftermarket net. I am also happy to print the hooks myself if anyone has a template or STL.

3. Trunk board hinge. What is the OEM part number and where does it mount? I found someone selling a 3D printed version, but shipping plus customs makes it rough for me, so if anyone has the print file for the hinge I would much rather print it myself.

4. Anything I am missing? So far my list is: trunk board (with hinge), trunk mat, and the cargo net, hooks, and screws for the hooks. Is there anything else in the OEM cargo area I am overlooking, like a spare tire well cover, foam tool tray, tie down loops, or extra trim retainers? One thing I do want to mention: I believe there is some foam that sits in the spare tire well cover area, which I think helps stop the cover from rattling. Can anyone confirm what that foam is, where it goes?

Photos, sketches, measurements, or print files would be a huge help. Thanks again!

1 - I used my OEM trunk board years ago and traced it onto a piece of Luan (underlayment) and made a new one b/c the OEM one cracked. From Mitsu, it was like a think MDF that didn't hold up very well long term. My Luan one I made has been in my car for probably 20 years now - Luan is typically 1/8 thick. You can find it at Lowes or Home Depot. It's an awkward shape, somebody would probably give you a busted up one you could trace like I did.
2 - There are 4 cargo hooks to hold the net on all 4 corners. The net has 4 stitched in loops. Two on the trunk board ,and one on each of the left and right rear trunk panels.
3- I forget what the hinge looks like honestly, I think it's a metal clip, but I might be confusing that with a Starion. Again, someone with parts car would probably give them to you for the cost of a shipping. I wouldn't use 3D printed ones, they'll most likely fatigue much quicker than OEM ones unless they are using a very high quality printer.
4 - The spare sits under the trunk board. On mine there's a long string that allows you hold the trunk board up if you need to remove the spart tire. There is a also a "U-shaped" windshield washer fluid tank in that area for the rear hatch glass. You might be missing that as well. And yes, I believe there are 3 pieces of foam on the underside of the trunk board that rest on the spare tire.

I never in all my years thought it be talking about the trunk area of a DSM. ROFL I can take some pictures of my car tomorrow and post them. In time meantime, if you look at my build thread there might be some pics of the trunk area from when I did my GSX swap.

Thank you so much techboy, this helps a lot. I really appreciate you taking the time.

Right now I am trying to gather as many references as I can before I start, so let me share some of what I have found so far.

One important thing I noticed is that GST and GSX are different. The GSX trunk is entirely flat, but the GST has a depression in it. Because of that, the GST trunk board is smaller and the trunk mat is bigger. I will send photos of what I believe is a stock setup so you can see the difference.

I found the mat on ACC. If you look at the images on their website you can see how it looks. From those photos it seems the mat is missing the cutouts for the hooks. My OCD does not let me have anything but the exact same cutouts, haha.

I will also post some links to videos with timestamps:

On sites like https://www.classic.com/m/mitsubishi/eclipse/2nd-gen/gs-t?filters[body_style][]=11 there are sometimes photos of the trunk, but I cannot see the photos of sold cars unless I pay a fee.

Heres some of the photos:

1) A top view of the trunk. There are four trim pins that attaches the trunk mat to the chassis (?). I can see two of the hooks.

2) A closer look of the driver side. I'm unsure if that hook that goes to the side panel is the same of the trunk board.

3) Not a very clear view of the passenger side. There's a hook into the passenger side. Also, what's that vent about?

So, summing up, there are two hooks on the board/mat and they seem to be screwed in, so you can decide when to use them. Then there is one hook on each side of the trunk panels, close to the strut mount.

I could not find clear photos of the back panels of the trunk, and I also could not find a close look at the part of the board and mat that sits close to that side of the trunk.

I also could not find photos of how the hinge looks. It makes sense that the hinge is different for GST and GSX, and this is also stated by the seller of the 3D printed hinges, since he sells one version for GST and another for GSX.

One more note, I do have the original spare tire, the plastic screw that holds the tire to the chassis, and the original car jack. I have the all the plastic interior panels. I'm just missing what holds cargo into the trunk.

I remember seeing that string on some cars, but it is very rare. I think most people either lose it or remove it. I will try to replicate it too.

In some videos I could see there is a cutout on the board so you can put your finger underneath and pull it out more easily.

In some videos I also noticed other cutouts close to the back side of the trunk, near the mat, but I could not figure out what they are for.

Just a small note, English is not my main language, so sometimes it is hard for me to find the right words when it comes to the car world. If something is not clear, please let me know and I will try to explain it better.

Thank you guys, again.
