im new to the dsm game i have a 2001 celica and ... i came across a 1990 plymouth laser fwd for 100 bucks .. thinkin a minor project .. well come to find out it was a lill more than a minor project...

took the head off and had a burnt valve and a blown head gasket .. looots of water in the oil found it had a turbo that leaked oil and a cracked exh manifold... time for a rebuild i figured soooooo..

rebuildin the bottom end .. id like some suggestions now im not a rich man or anything but i dont want to buy a pos part ... since im sure most of you guys know your cars and there parts i was hopin you could help me out and this is not going to be my daily driver btw.......

suggestions on internal parts?
turbos?
valve train?
any other lill parts i may need to add in there for a properly built motor

thanks

With slicks and a good LSD yes. With a blown turbo, just get a small 16G to replace it. 2G pistons and stock 1G rods are an excellent economy package that can do 400whp if asked to nicely.

why do you feel you need to rebuild the bottom end?

If he has the money, he may as well, since he will have the head off anyways.

i have the money to do it right which i was wanting suggestions on how to do .. i just was wonderin since u guys have been around these cars more than i have weather it would be a good idea to go ahead and put the money into the bottom end with aftermarket pistons and rods ... i dont mind spendin money i just dont want to buy a pos part or something that is unecassary .... and i was wondering on suggestions of any part i may need to replace or update its jsut a project car soo its got all the time in the world to sit and wait for me to get the do and do it right

and btw im rebuilding the bottom end b cause it has been sitting it has had watery oil sitting in it for the past 3 months from the blow headgasket and it has 140k miles on it

soo what would be a good aftermarket rod and piston combo?

i read ross and eagle is a good combo..
i have wiseco and 1g rods on my engine...
oh oh and get the high end bearings, dont go cheapo on the bearings..i got clevelite 77 im not sure if they are good but hey everyone seems to be getting them.:p

I don't get why you insist on going with aftermarket when as it was mentioned above, stock 1g rods with 2g pistons can safely make 400 hp. Being new to DSM's as you are, I don't think you will reach that anytime soon.

clevite bearings are not stock...Im pretty sure anyways =) ...

Clevite bearings are generally a much softer metal (tri-metal) than the OEMs...
