Rebuilding a 6 bolt

I am going to rebuild my 6 bolt this winter. I am confused on what pistons to use for the block. I am just going with the stock block. I want some forged pistons with eagle rods. Will forged pistons 20 over work ok with the stock block. All the bored over stuff confuses the hell out of me.

Take your block to a good machine shop and have them check the bore. They will tell you if it needs to be bored out at all. For our cars, having it bored out only makes sure the cylinder walls are straight, smooth, and even. You won't notice any power gains out of it.

That being said, if your machinist says your bore will be straight and smooth at .020'' over, you will need to buy pistons that fit a .020'' over bore (or whatever over bore you go with). Then bring the pistons to the machinist BEFORE you bore the block so that he/she can ensure an exact fitment of the piston to the bore.

So in short, if you want to bore your motor .020'' over, get pistons that are .020'' over. Also, let your machinist know what brand of forged piston you are using. Different brands of forged pistons have different expansion rates and require different piston to bore clearances.
