I'm trying to remove the rear wiper arm, but for the life of my can't figure out why it won't come off. I'd simply like to remove the arm and repaint it a nice flat black, since the paint is kind of baked off of it partially. I remove the 10mm nut and it seems like it should just lift off at that point, but it won't budge. Am I missing something here? I even tried gently tapping on the side of it with a hammer to try and free it, but nothing.

Your not missing anything. Mine was a PITA to get off, but it helps if when you pull up on it to take it off, move it left and right

Hmmm, that's what I figured. I beat on it pretty good and wiggled the daylights out of it. Then today it was raining, and since it was still attatched, I flipped the switch to turn it on, and no action. Worked fine two days ago. All I wanted to do was re-paint it to look nice.

Instead of repainting it, you can try to use Back to Black to see if it makes a difference. It is in a red bottle and is made by Mothers.

Pull the wiper up so its not against the car and grab that part with one hand and put your hand flat against the base and wiggle up and down, if that makes since. If that dont work they make a puller for removing them. Might be able to get one at autozone or something.

Just hold the end of it up and take a flat head screwdriver and slide it under the wiper arm attachment. This will give you something to apply some upward pressure to the arm while you wiggle it back and forth. This is what i did not to long ago in order to get my arms off and it took a little bit of elbow grease but it worked eventually. I was taking them off for the same reason as well.

mine just stopped working one day too LOL ....so i took it off.....but yeah you have to make it vertical then try to take it off and hold the wiper for added strength and it should come riht off

The reason why it stopped working after you tried to remove it is that you didn't put the nut back on. The nut secures the arm onto the splines on the motor, and without the nut the motor will just turn inside the arm and not move it. My fronts were a pain to remove but after wiggling them for a while it all of a sudden came off pretty violently and almost launched pretty far.
