Does anyone know what I should use to seal the Rear Main housing to the block? I asked around at the dealerships service depts. and they pretty much had no clue. I have heard of people using RTV, can anyone testify?

Yes, use RTV. Be sure to keep oil away as long as required for the RTV cure. The Mitsubishi sealant is MD970389 if you want to get it from the dealer, but any equivalent is fine.

how about the right gasket. the one that looks like a horse shoe. just a thought

Oddly enough, neither the FSM nor CAPS show a gasket for it. The strange differences between 1Gs and 2Gs.

i guess thats what i get for assuming. LOL mine came with the conversion gasket set for the lower end. but then again mine is a 1g. with that in mind use carb cleaner to clean the surface and apply a thin layer of rtv and let dry thoroughly.

6 bolts use a gasket (MD183243). 7 bolts use RTV.

I've had that gasket fail before. It cracked and slid out a little. Bad for the clutch.

The instuructions in the Felpro gasket set specifically call for a brush tack type of sealer. I used a product called "Hi-Tack" that's red and comes in a can with a brush. It's probably the best thing you can use on that little paper gasket. It's super sticky, and when it cures it will never delaminate from the metal like RTV does.

The seal should never come into contact with any fluid other than engine oil and, again, there is no gasket.

I would use black or grey. I used black for my oil pan and it works great, so there isn't any reason it won't work for the rear oil seal cover.
