Hey peeps, i was coming home the other nite and i had a very loud vibration coming from my rear diff. I also notice a clicking sound when i would make sharp turns, as i was pulling into my garage my rear wheels felt like they locked up, then as i parked the car i noticed steam coming from the rear, as i looked under to take a peek i seen squirts marks on my muffler and some on the floor?? Is my diff destroyed?? Also notice when i was moving my car in the garage my oil gauge dropped all the way down. I guess when it rains it pours LOL. One last thing will a 1g rear diff. fit a 2g? thanks for all your help:thumb:

only way to know for sure is ether drop it your self of have a shop look at it, if you seen steam comming off of it, well thats not a good sign, maybe you blew the seal? I would't drive it till you got it looked at.

and No, a 1g rear will not work on a 2g rear. (ratios are diffrent and other things)

Ya, that's what i was gonna do, drop it then have someone look at it. Would the locking of the diff cause the oil preasure to drop?

I would say probably not, but i would't put nothing pass these cars.

Did the gauge stop working or you seen the needle drop? check the wire on the sensor and see if maybe it got cut some how or poped off (i know mine is kind of taped in place LOL ). It is odd you losing oil pressure. If not one problem in the rear now you have one up front. Good Luck.

I blew out my center diff while driving at 65mph down the highway! Not a good thing to experience.:notgood: The rears locked up and she slid all over. Luckily once I got onto the grass it slowed down alot and became more managable. The car gave NO WARNING at all this time. I replaced that and all was good for about 6 months then the rear started making a grinding noise the same as yours is from what I understand. I dropped it down enough and pulled the rear cover off...METAL SHAVINGS ALL OVER.OMG Not really a surprisse because upon draining the fluid out all I got was about 1 cup worth of paste. Anyway, when replacing the rear diff DO NOT overtighten the top 2 mounting bolts! they actually thread into the cover and put pressure on the main carrier casing. Too much pressure and you'll be leaking fluid out all over again. Good luck! It can be done in about a day if you have some basic knowledge and a good air compressor and air tools.

Thanks for all your help, now i know what i can expect from this job and from my car, dam i hate it but love it LOL!!

one more thing, i keep getting two different stories about 1g diffs being able to fit 2g cars, can anyone give me a definite answer or can we all come to some mutual agreement:rocks:, thanks

I would't mess with a 1g rear. rebuild or find a good used 2g rear end.

>>>>WILL NOT WORK<<<<

And it's really nothing other than the mounts are not the same.
The ratio in the rear is different on the 97-99 than the 1g's are.
Also the axles are different.

Sounds good peeps, thanks for the info, I've been trying to look for one and the cheapest is 5 bills.OMG.

Just have to look around a bit. I sold one for 250 a couple months ago. And I didn't realize it was an LSD till after I quoted him the price. DOH!!

I've been looking but no luck, I even got shops looking but I'm not having any luck. Does anyone know how much a rebuild goes for?? If you guys come across one let me know LOL.

I sent that guy an email before, but got no answer, but I did it again and added my personal email addy. Thanks for the info.
